Ever use the 2-64 backgammon die, aka the Doubling Cube, in table top play?

My groups have had many different traditions when it came to non-standard dice like this and the d30. Basically, if a player wants to roll a d64 (as we call the backgammon dice) in place of their normal damage dice, they put $1 into The Bucket. [50 cents if they wish to roll the d30 in place...

D&D 4E Wishlist: Things You'd Hope To See In 4E

My Social character isn't useless in Combat because I give you minor competence bonuses to your fighting. You can Aid Another on the Diplomacy check. Same thing. Just because you aren't making the main check doesn't mean you can't add to it. To paraphrase from a section in one of the Savage...

    So...how do you pronounce it?

According to the 2nd Edition Monster Manual (the only thing I've found so far that has a pronunciation guide for the little buggers) it's ICKS-it-ZATCH-i-tal. -TRRW

No Macs? Holy crap did WotC do the math wrong!

How's about you just get your silly little white plasticy computerbox to run DirectX? Isn't there also that fake Windows environment you can run so that your computer will run Windows based utilities? Heck, I had that on an iMac back in 1998; it can't be *that* difficult to do on a new...

    Help ! A Tip for a 12th level adventure

    Playtest news...

So, wait. Because I hated Greyhawk and severely disliked playing with a bunch of 10 year olds at conventions, my years of DMing are nothing? That seems reasonable. -TRRW

    Align this character.

I recently came across a character, and would like to get your opinions on his alignment. I'll list a few points on his morals and let the thread go on from there. - He would never harm a child or defenseless person. - He wants to save the world from a tyrannical and thoroughly evil...

How would you rate your group's OOC chatter?

We fall into the NC-17ish rating, but only because we make fun of everything. Anything is funny to us, given the right context. Necrophilia? Slavery? Incest? Rape? Pedophilia? Politics? Religion? Psht. We'll specifically make jokes about Necrophilic Pedo-Incest Rape laws as they relate to...

Teaser Video: Who are the Players?

It was satire. The point of satire is to insult, but in a way that highlights the negative aspects they wanted to illustrate for the video. Also, he was supposed to be French I think. Also, I know the DM is Scott Rouse. Mearls is in there somewhere too. Probably the fool trying to grapple...

    An argument for gnomes (Eberron)

And that's exactly why Gnomes will be in the Player's Handbook 2, due out in May 2009; just a few months before Eberron 4.0 is released. -TRRW

    RPG Advertisement Help!

Honestly, it reads like an eBay listing. Instead of making words entirely capitalized, try using bold print instead. The line "It is acclaimed for realism..." is kinda tangential. Acclaimed by whom? If you really want to keep that statement, I'd drop it down a paragraph. Make the first line...

Why Put magic Items in The PHB?

What's with all this "players shouldn't have information also magic items and spells should be spooky and mysterious and only the guy on the lonely side of the screen gets to know what they do" talk? That's up there with "no player should ever look at the DMG" and "I will keep these magic items...

I managed to log in: Sign up and login for D&D Insider now working!

If you look, some of the articles (specifically the Playtest articles and the Dungeon/Dragon sections) have an [Insider] tag next to them. If you aren't logged in, you (supposedly) can't see these. -TRRW

I hope the three core rulebooks have a "DM's clause".

Rule 0 is all well and good before the campaign starts, but what I get sick of is DMs that feel they can change the rules mid session just because. Telling your players about a houserule before a campaign starts is one thing, but halfway through your fourteenth session is not a place to go...

What do you plan on doing for your last 3.x campaign?

Well, as I'm currently DMing all 4 APs Paizo has put out (Shackled City, Age of Worms, Savage Tide, and just this week Pathfinder) over three groups, I've got quite a lot of 3.5 ahead of me. We're racing to see which gets done first. My money is on Savage Tide. -TRRW
