Why Did No One Tell me? Ultimate Toolbox!

I just got this book today, a pity I did not get it months ago. Best. RPG. Book. EVER. I will definitely get the PDF!

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

I voted "I hate it," But I'd like to change my vote to "I dislike it." I hated 4e everytime I saw my 4e books on my shelf. But now I've sold them, so they're gone. The 4e books reminded me of the money time wasted running a 4e campaign last spring. I gave 4e a good try. But it failed my...

Something 3E and 4E lost (that 2E had)

Mercurius--Wonderful thread. I've been looking for ways to promote running an AD&D 2e campaign. A few of my players complained that 2e didn't have many class options. I had forgotten about those class creation rules. So thanks!

T1: The Village of Hommlet - why are the PCs there?

To use a cliche: You all meet in the tavern of the Inn of the Welcome Wench over mugs of ale. You've all heard of rumors of adventures nearby and decide to work together.

How many people are buying less books for 4E than previous editions?

I bought the PHB, DMG, MM, Open Grave, and the Adventures vault. I even invested in DDI. I stopped purchasing not because of financial reasons: I just don't like 4e. And wish it didn't take me purchasing around $150 worth of books to figure that out. :( I bought waaay more books for 3.5.

    Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader

I played in a Dark Heresy campaign for a year and a half. Hands down, its one of my favorite systems. If you run Dark Heresy, be prepared for players treating it like D&D or any other run of the mill RPG. That is, they go charging in relying on their health or luck to sustain them. Combat...

non switchers: what can wotc do to win you back?

Everytime I think of 4e or look at the crisp and barely used 4e books on my shelf, I feel sad. I've been playing D&D since 1988. D&D was like a friend to me, growing, changing, but still seemed familiar. And we had plenty of memories together. But then one day D&D showed up wearing new cloths...

non switchers: what can wotc do to win you back?

nothing can bring me back at this point After 4e came out, I bought the core books, Adventurer's Vault, and finally Open Grave. I was excited, I thought 4e seemed simpler to run (like 2e). I ran a couple one-shot games and enjoyed myself. But then I ran a campaign and did not enjoy it for many...

New D&D movie in the works?

I like that! :) Some other good modules made into movies could be: SPOILERS The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh--a haunted house and PIRATES! Against the Giants (made into an epic trilogy) The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan (the adventures are trapped and must escape) The Wizards Amulet and The...

New D&D movie in the works?

If they use 4e then the combat scenes will come to a slow grind. ;)

D&D needs more locations like those in the D&D Cartoon!

The opening scene frightened me when I was really young: The boy is laying in bed, his foot drops off to one side and a monster comes out from beneath the bed and pulled him into a portal!

    Banned from public RPG

It sounds like your were playing the latest game by White Wolf--WALRUS: THE MASQUERADE! See, you were fined for disorderly conduct because you openingly acted like a walrus. That is, you breached the masquerade. Next time, you need to find a way to keep your long walrus fangs hidden.

How many folks are still playing/running 3e?

I currently run a 3.5e campaign using the core books. Other materials may be introduced at my discretion. I tried running 4e, but I just did not like it.

The thing I miss most from AD&D is...

XP for treasure is another reason why AD&D is awesome. :) I wonder... would 1/4 all XP from killing monsters and giving 1gp = 1 XP work to making feel like AD&D. I remember when PCs really didn't like tackling random encounters. Random encounters after had very little XP and very little...

    I love AD&D

Balance? Balance? We don't need no stinking balance! Blah! A couple sleep spells could knock out a bunch of kobolds or goblins, but they're not worth a whole lot of XP anyway. And, eventually, the magic-user will run out of spells... But then again, I've gamed with a guy who miscast sleep. He...

another rpg industry doomsday article (merged: all 3 "Mishler Rant" threads)

Well, here's my plan to save the industry... 1. From here on out, every RPG book must have a "tastefully" scantily clad woman on the cover. Perhaps getting actual pictures of celebrities dressed up in fantasy constumes might help. 2. A certain portion of each book will be dedicated to...

Help I introduced a too powerful NPC

Let's see, how would a TV series handle this? --A blow to the head causes temporary amnesia for the rest of the adventure. He doesn't know who he is, nor does he remember any spells. --His evil twin shows up and he has to go fight him. --Somebody poisons him, effectively taking him out of...

    I love AD&D

Ha! Na, just a guy who's observed a thing or two about his favorite hobby. But thanks! LOL! That's what I get for playing 3e/3.5e for about nine years! In AD&D they're called magic-users. A wizard is a name level. It is all coming back to me now! Man, this thread makes me want to run an...

    I love AD&D

Three more things that make AD&D awesome... (These can apply to both AD&D and AD&D 2e). 1. Proficiencies were there but not required. I was satisfied the proficiency system in both AD&D 1st and 2nd editions. It was, however, quick and dirty. I didn't make much sense why characters did not get...
