How did you learn to GM?

I was self taught. My first two players were my mom and dad, i got stumped on how to determine damage, it took a week or two before we couldresolve our first encounter while i figure out how the heck to roll damage for player attacks. I played D&D with whoever woudl give it a go and it slowly...

    D&D Social Stigma

I bump into the stigma whenever a lady makes it to my bedroom (not that they shouldn'ty be able to notice in my kitchen or living room) and they notice the shelves full of rpgs. I point out : "it is a cheaper and less annoying hobby then drugs, gambling, whoring, psycho sports fan or boozing"...

    Commuting sucks.

I have a 37.5 mile commute. Depending on traffic conditions which are seemingly totally random and are never reported accurately this can take me 0.5 hour to 2.5 hours to drive. Argghhhhhhhhhh !!!!! i think it is commuting Karma getting me bad. For about 6 years my communte was 12 feet, from...

Introducing fantasy RPGs to religious players

Well it is all pretend. Acting in a greek tragedy wouldn'ty endanger someones faith. I've played in a game that had a catholic priest sit in now and again for a little while and he thought it was a great morality learning tool (and he did like smiting orcs and zombies). One fellow I gamed with...

Worst RPG System You Ever Palyed?

Heck I played it once. It seemed fine for one shots and was built for soap opera action but thaty really isn't tyhe usual genre explored by rpgs, no vampitres no cyborgs and the game didin't rotate around combar resolution. I don't recall a lot about it as it was a long time ago (20 years or...

Worst RPG System You Ever Palyed?

Nope not the same mechanics , you say so yourself. There is no chart to check in 3.x D&D, clearly different mechanics. In 3.x D&D you generally succeed or fail at a task in RM there could be dozens of different outcomes based on the roll, modifiers and index beign checked on a chart. Weapon...

    Gaming across the generation gap

Don't hold someones age against them (do get guardians explicit permission if the person is under 18). When I was a teenager I DM'd for a group that included players from 12 years of age to 50 something we had a lot of players. RPGs are a good way to learn some social skills (beleave it or not).

    Mundane treasures--what's the point?

Mundane? Since when are the Crown Jewels or a famous work of art mundane? Yeah 12 glaives , a pair of swords and a hogshead of stout would be a mundane treasue but something on the scale of the Mona Lisa or the Royal Jewels really shouldn't be mundane. I've had parties that scavenged fixtures...
