How do people afford to live?

$25,000 to $50,000 a year per kid? Hardly. That $7,000 a year figure is a lot more accurate.

How do people afford to live?

that'd run you about $180,000 at least near me in southern NH and just over the border into mass it'd be $300,000+

    Barsoomian Longsword

A longsword. If i was using the Conan d20 by mongoose it'd be an Arming sword.

D&D 3.x Any 3.5 books that have a list of poisons in them?

Using poison is seen as evil when it is used to give one an unfair advantage throughout literature and myth. Killing rats is not seen to be an unfair advantage. Putting poison on a blade does provide one with an unfair advantage becasue it doesn't require a masterful blow to deliver death only a...

My sister almost attacked a Pregnant Woman!

The pregnant woman who wasn't beaten early in the thread probably had more ills then just smoking. Smoking is a dirty habbit, it isn't too bright and may indeed make one ill. Folks seem to forget that there were a few generations of americans where a large fraction of folks smoked, while...

What traits would your Ultimate Space Opera setting have?

Wing Commander (of the old pc game era) would work fairly well for me. Throw in a couple of additional space powers/races and have at it.

What traits would your Ultimate Space Opera setting have?

This stuff is "Swords and Planets" not Space Opera. Don't get me wrong, I really dig swords and planets.

Why does magic work the way it works?

Who says there isn't? There could be hundreds of variations of spelsl such as Blaines Floating Disk and Igbys Room Sweeping. But they are not widely distributed and of limited utility. Of course cost does limit this to a degree as it can cost a hefty penny to come up with a new spell compared...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

I do think the Warlock might be a good choice for unorganized players who want to take a stab at playing a magic-user because there isn't very much to keep track of. I've known plenty of players who can't seem to recall or keep track of more then five or six spells and fall back on them again...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

I myself don't have much of an issue with the Edritch blasts but some of the incantations cast over and over again are going to be a bit much . The incantations that cover an area are going to be real annoying when many a combat area ends up full of black tentacles for example. There is...

    Your thoughts on warlocks

Can a Warlock use more then one invocation at a time? Can the warlock have an invocation running and still use an eldritch blast?

How much of your work-day is actually spent working?

Actual productive work - 3 hours Watching progress bars creep across a screen - 4 to 12 hours Some weeks when i'm not to busy i effectively get paid hundreds of dollars to play Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004 and catch up on my DM paperwork.

How would you like the world to end?

Verneshot. It might be pretty entertaining for a few seconds and will not last long enough to hurt very much.

Just Curious ... Hom many come from AD&D?

I started in 1970s just before you could find the game almost anywhere. I was into wargaming before I discovered D&D. I miss shoving hundreds of little cardboard pieces about on a hex grided map... sniff.

How many soldiers could a kingdom realistically muster?

The U.S. had 16 million folks in the armed forces during WW2 but they were not all in service the entire war and they were not all combat troops. The structure of a nation during WW2 and a mediveal society are also profoundly different. A mediveal society coud probably maintain a satynding...

Effect of axial tilt on a planet

Yes. Because of the air pressure and temperature water can't really spend much if any time as a liquid. When (and if) ice melts on mars it boils away into vapor. Not 100% certain but I think water boils on mars somewhere near 0 degrees celsius, which mean ice ->vapor but not ice -> water ->...

Effect of axial tilt on a planet

well I was going with the assumption there is enough water on the world to have oceans and we aren't dealing with a brief "sweet spot" in an effectively non-terrestrial world when there is free standing water before it all gets trapped in the atmosphere as vapor or boils away forever.

    Agyris, anyone?

I've been following the Agyris stuff for a while now. I don't know if i'd ever try to play a game in the setting but the web page is wonderfully illustrated and full of stuff to mine for other campaigns. It really serves as an excellent eample of how much can be done with fantasy campaigns to...

Effect of axial tilt on a planet

If folks want to play with this sort of thing I'd recomend hunting down "SIMEARTH" you get to tinker with planetary conditons, placement of land masses, amount of water and see how the environment turns out.

Effect of axial tilt on a planet

You don't need rain to have weather. Variations in wind speed alone and pressure alone would produce differences in an environnment. Not much fun but still weather. Changes in pressure will cause changes in temperature (and vice versa). One air mass moving at a different speed compared to...
