E6? Is it your cup of tea?

I think E6 is a really cool idea and could probably sell my players on it, but I'm not presently planning an E6 campaign. If I did one, it would probably be Star Wars Saga-based, since I would find that version of 1st level more palatable and Rycanada's death rules are native to that system...

Give me a competent arguement that WotC is "changing rules for the sake of change"

From my perspective, making the game more accessible to new players is the DEFINITION of making it better. It should be, in my opinion, at the very least wide enough to INCLUDE "what is currently in vogue in popular culture," the 'at the moment' being redundant. At the very least, it should be...

    Slow Changes (Just theoreterizin...)

Certainly not under the current crop of designers, most if not all of whom are great proponents of class-based systems. If anything, the codification of roles is a RECONFIRMATION of their support for one of the main points of a class-based system: encouraging, if not outright forcing, players...

Give me a competent arguement that WotC is "changing rules for the sake of change"

New players are highly likely to associate "PC Elf" with "Legolas in the LotR movies." Legolas is a woodsy, bow-using, green-and-brown-wearing athletic ranger type. The next most common association is probably with Warcraft elves, who are split between magic-addicted evil, or at least chaotic...

D&D 4E Is 4E winning you or losing you?

Like cockroaches. ;) Seriously, though; I agree with your wider point about Msrs. Cook and Tweet and D&D's need to escape the shackles of prior editions, but this particular statement seemed more than a bit specious.

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

Are they? Mongoose publishing puts out at least three lines devoted to lower-magic settings. Major, well-supported game lines, from what appears to be the second- or third-largest RPG publisher on the planet. Green Ronin produces a famous gritty/lower-magic setting. It's well supported...

    Eladrin

Neither wikipedia nor dictionary.com cite any pre-D&D references to the word, and unlike angel and archon, it does not appear in the SRD. I'm thinking "no," unless it's a mangled spelling of a pre-existing term or a reference to an obscure fantasy novel.

    D&D 4E 4E Rules first Role-Play second?

Mine has been the exact opposite. When combat is lethal (not Dogs in the Vineyard-style "lethal by the player's choice" but Rolemaster-style "lethal all the time, every time"), players disassociate themselves from their characters and play them as disposable playing pieces. Not much reason to...

D&D 4E Is 4E winning you or losing you?

I was initially very excited, because the first teasers seemed to imply 4e would take the best of d20 design and reincorporate it into d20's core. My enthusiasm has cooled considerably since then; at this point, while 4e sounds much better than 3.5, it doesn't sound as good as Star Wars Saga...

    POLL: Furry Races

I like sentient animals, bipedal animal-men (which are the only ones I would consider "furry races") and OA-style shapeshifters. I'm not too fond of Shifters.

    Rezzing

QFT. No gameplay death + no gameplay resurrection. This is how SWSE handles the issue, and I hope it's another improvement 4e will incorporate.

D&D 4E WHat should be random in 4E?

Weapon damage. Spell damage. Attack rolls. Skill/ability checks. I leave 'saving throws' off because I'd much prefer to see those as target numbers against which active characters would make rolls. To be fair, though, this would leave the results just as random. Now, I would very much like to...

    D&D 4E DMs--Are you ending your campaign for 4e?

I'd have to be running a D&D 3.5 campaign for this to matter; I'm currently running a campaign using a superior d20 rulesset (SWSE), but that will almost certainly wrap up by then. I might be running another using SWSE, Mutants and Masterminds, Spirit of the Century or a proprietary system, but...

D&D 4E Poll: Who Would LIke to See the Drow in 4E PHB?

Yes. They are (or at least are alleged to be) a very popular racial choice, especially among relatively new players attracted to D&D through its licensed media. Seems like a logical choice for the PHB.

What do players want from a homebrew?

    1) In descending order of importance: One or more airships. Pulpy or mildly superheroic power level for player characters. Absence of Tolkienesque tropes. Presence of either Howardian/S&S tropes or anime/JRPG tropes. Bonus points for both! Steampunk and/or scientific romance elements other...

    PHB - Human only?

Since the default PHB racial suite is highly unlikely to suit most of the settings I'm interested in (pulp sword and sorcery or JRPG-inspired), I'd be happy with this - under 3e. Under 4e, with the new, non-playable-sounding monster rules, I don't think it would work.

Will you be buying the 'Wizards Presents' previews?

Yeah, by all accounts, this is pretty much what the books are. I do enjoy designers' notes and whatnot, so it's possible I'll pick them up. On the other hand, my money is exceedingly tight, so perhaps not.

    Heroic Frequency

Other: PCs aren't "career adventurers" in my games. Certainly there are other mercenary companies, military units, demon hunting knightly orders, merchant traders and sometime privateers, rebels fighting against usurpers or conquerers, etc. The PCs are "adventurers" in the sense that they are...

D&D 4E Are the 4E previews like turning it up to 11?

For a PC game? Of course! This is absolutely CENTRAL to at least the online business model of PC gaming today. Good luck finding a game you CAN'T find a free demo of. That's not even mentioning open betas. For an X-Box 360 or PS3 game? Probably. It's new to consoles, and speaks to a 'beta...

Complete Disagreement With Mike on Monsters (see post #205)

Wheee! I not only get to PAY MONEY for incomplete material, I also get to TAKE TIME AWAY FROM MAKING MORE so I can complete it? What next? Do I get to pay a subscription, not to have more content delivered, but to have it actually, physically removed from my books? What is the point of...
