D&D 5E (2014) What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

So a few things to note first 1) I like 5e a lot. I still run and play 5e. So everything I'm about to say comes from a place of love and wishing 5e was even better then it already is. 2) I doubt anything I say here will not have been covered somewhere in the previous 25 pages but I still wanna...

D&D General [Poll] Metagame justifications for in-character behavior

So I'm at sometimes because I tend to judge things on a individual basis. I'm fine with most of what people consider metagaming. Feel free to remember whatever you want about troll regeneration, devil resistances, etc. Just like I'll feel free to change them up whenever I think it's necessary...

    D&D General Run Away!

Maybe it's just my group but in my experience players HATE losing. It doesn't mean they won't laugh at a TPK later but it does mean that they will let multiple PC's die and fight to the bitter end for a 1% chance of winning rather then run away and lose the fight. I have had people Kill...

D&D 5E (2014) Re-gripping your weapon uses an object interaction?

So I do think the ruling that you can't attack with a two handed weapon on the turn you draw it is just stupid. You are obviously supposed to be able to. As to the idea that ungripping/regripping using an item interaction I have some insights. 1) I know in the Star Wars 5e conversion it does...

Umbrella academy season 3. No spoilers please

A lot of composers also aren't aiming for memorable soundtracks. They're aiming for a soundtrack that enhances the scenes they're in without overshadowing. While having big epic scores can be a good thing and enhance a movie sometimes most of the time it's better if the music is something that...

D&D 5E (2014) Charm Person ends if caster does something harmful to target. Is hurting the target's ally harmful?

So the funnies thing to me is the line "a friendly acquittance" wouldn't actually be a huge hindrance to my party attacking the charmer. The times where one character has attacked an friendly NPC/other character the party reaction has more often then not been "Beat them down talk after." because...

D&D General Players who take Excruciatingly long turns: solution?

So I had a similiar problem with a player who would play bards and take forever to try and decide what spells, who to inspire, etc. It was compounded by he also occasionally had problems following what was going on when it came to his turn. I tried the 30 second thing (used an hourglass) but...

Dr Strange 2: In the Multiverse of Madness (Spoilers)

Overall I enjoyed the movie just like I enjoyed most marvel movies. That being said I am on the side of the people who saying that the Wanda heel turn seems abrupt. In terms of screen time the time between "Oh god what I have I done. I must free the town even if it means giving up the children I...

    Ms Marvel (spoilers)

So far it seems really fun. First thought is that someone making this really liked The Mitchells vs the Machines (which isn't a criticism). Looking forward to the rest of the series to see if it holds up.

Dragonlance [+] What do you like most about DRAGONLANCE?

I really loved the dragonlance books. Especially the original two trilogies. To this day the ending of Test of the Twins still makes me cry. Overall the Dragonlance books just had a lot of really good characters. I can't think of a single one of the original party I didn't love (even...

    D&D 5E (2014) What are your 5e houserules

Over time I have used (and discarded) a lot of house rules. Many times I've found the mental overhead of having a whole lot of house rules can easily outweigh the benefits. That being said I still like to tinker and see what works. My current house rules are 1) I have a homebrewed feat system...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, how do you fudge?

So I will say I actually do this. I let players use inspiration to re-roll any dice they or an opponent roll. So far at least it hasn't had had to many serious downsides. I'd say it's 50/50 used to either re-roll critical checks or to negate a critical hit from an enemy. Worth noting that I...

D&D General How do players feel about DM fudging?

Yeah that's probably more right. I ended up positive because I find fudging (used judiciously) acceptable. If it's something that happens a lot though there's a problem either with the DMs ability to create encounters or their ability to run the game.

D&D General What is your roll with your gaming group (or groups)

I've been the main DM for my group since we started playing. I would say about 90% of games have ended up with me as a DM with occasional small breaks. More recently though a couple of players have been stepping up to the plate more often to try their hand at DMing which is a nice change of...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, how do you fudge?

So I used to fudge a fair bit when I first started to DM and have done so a lot less as the years have gone on. I've found that after years of being a DM that I can usually accomplish the narrative goals I want with other means then just changing the numbers on a monster or a roll. (NPC...

Why is everyone so down on Charm Person?

Holy crap that shows how much I look at the dates of these things. Didn't even realize it was that old.

Why is everyone so down on Charm Person?

So I've always considered charm person and it's kin to be in the same category as killing for d&d terms. By which I mean that doing it with bandits and random monsters can be justified but if your doing it to townsfolk it's probably evil. Frankly regardless of what you are using the spell for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaigns or adventure anthologies?

So I prefer the campaigns because I am a lazy, lazy man and usually don't want to put in the effort to make a whole campaign but I also like having long running campaigns with overarching plots. I've run 4 of the Campaigns that wizards have put out and while I usually end up changing a LOT of...

D&D 5E (2014) Removing Attack Rolls -- and maybe more? (Game Design / Theory Discussion)

So if your just pooling all attacks together before all attack damage together before applying DR it does help with balance. With that I think that it would make trying the system out playable, however I would still be hesitant to use it. There are still a few issues 1) Pooling all attacks as...
