What kind of hero do you prefer in fantasy/sci-fi? [edited thread]

Shouldn't that be fine and hobbit? Nitpicks aside I prefer a hero who develops from their experiences, but they don't have to be a total wimp, but an ordinary person is fine and probably preferable to some flawless ubermensch.

D&D 4E Would you have alignment in 4e?

Keep it, but make it part of a set of optional rules including an allegiance system based on D20M rules and including options for codes of honour like the Conan RPG. Personally I prefer to use a more OD&D/Moorcockian Law/Neutral/Chaos system.

UK GenCon - are you going?

I'll probably be at Dragonmeet as I'm in London anyway, hopefully we'll get a fair number of UK posters there.

    [Oct] What Are You Reading?

Game: Wilderlands of High Fantasy boxed set - I feel like I could run about 5 simultaneous weekly campaigns and never exhaust the potential of this setting. Magazine: National Geographic October issue

    The party of five

My take: combat specialist - Fighter or Barbarian Cleric Wizard Rogue Fifth beatle: Wilderness campaigns: Druid or maybe Ranger Urban (dungeon based) campaign: Bard (Bard or mobile combat type - Barbarian/Monk) Bard is very useful with Inspire Courage, backup spellcaster, good social skills...

How do you like to get XP?

When I'm DMing I'll give extra XP for players acting out dancing on their fallen opponents graves. ;) I voted for the DM's house ruled version as that's what I use with my players so I'm happy to take it that way!

Poll - What do you WANT from d20?

Unless we had polls that allowed preference rankings as well as vote for its hard to quantify stuff too well from these, if we could rank in order of preference and adventures had 50% of voters saying this was their first preference then it'd be more valuable. Personally Adventures, followed by...

    D&D Essentials

A short list: For settings: Wilderlands of High Fantasy Boxed Set & Players Guide to the Wilderlands (Necromancer Games) Monsters: Tome of Horrors II (Necromancer Games) Adventures/mini-campaigns Dungeon #83 (may have issue no wrong - 1st 3e issue, couple of good adventures) The Grey Citadel...

    Who controls your npcs

When GMing I use the following (except right to veto obviously suicidal or ooc actions) Animal companions and familiars I allow players to control NPC allies are controlled by me as GM except in combat where players control Cohorts currently I'd thought of player controlling, but I like the...

Has the RPG market crashed the $40 product price ceiling?

I suspect that publishers will do these high end products if the ones produced to date are successful. If the costs of production don't rise that quickly as page count increases then a larger more expensive product can be more profitable than a few smallish (128 page) books and they do bring...

Cage Match: Conan vs Tarzan TO THE DEATH!

Conan by a whisker, as the Tarzan of the books is more of a bad ass than the movie versions.

    D&D/The History Channel promotion

Given the history channels usual content wouldn't WWII based RPG be more appropriate? :) Nice to hear that WotC are trying to get a bit of promotion outside the usual channels.

    [humor] Criticalmiss Internet Magazine !

Of course programming tends to create an attention to detail about the written word, which reminds me of one of my favourite Dilbert cartoons Boss: why is your code full of colons? Dilbert: because they remind me of you. Not quoted verbatim, but close enough.

The Leading Ladies Showdown Round 1

What's going to be the cutoff for this one? (hint to OP - lots of votes means a hell of a lot more effort in doing the results in the early stages).

    [humor] Criticalmiss Internet Magazine !

Extreme thread necromancy. A new Critical Miss would be welcome, especially if it can reach the peaks of James Wallis ruined my life... If I make threats I may be in a position to carry them out after all London isn't that big a city! :p

Kickin' it old school -- are you game?

I'd happily play OD&D (1974) or Basic/Expert again, but for the moment am more likely to go the Castles & Crusades route. I do play 3.5 and enjoy it, but luckily social encounters aren't handled as just make a die roll. Probably it'll turn into me playing three games: C&C for my Wilderlands...

Would you play a Class with an XP adjustment?

Not in 3e, as has already been pointed out it breaks down the claimed balance and makes tools like CR and EL even less reliable, especially as it would tend to break those at the low levels where they are reasonably effective.

How fast do your characters advance in level?

Generally a level every 3-4 sessions with the campaign I GM and in the game I play in.
