I'd prefer a more rules light system than 3e, preferably with there being a clearer path to using features as modular parts of the system like feats or skills.
I've played a couple of games as a player set on the pictish border of Aquilonia, as a GM I'm keener on playing a more episodic game with adventures set in different areas rather than the usual D&D style campaign arc.
That's funny I don't remember seeing Paul Darrow in it.

Actually Gareth Hunt has definitely aged since the '70s.
MM, big fan of Blake's 7 from the first broadcast.
Generally with older editions it averaged 4 and the same with 3e. I've had bigger and smaller, but find for D&D that 4 is a good size for a party, though I think I've had about 8 in OD&D and five in 3e. I think that 3e would suffer in combat with large parties as there tends to be a lot more to...
Beregost[IC]

For me its too fast in 3e and 3.5 default assumptions, but there are lot of different ways to play this game and I do it with revised XP awards and treasure to match my game idea.
I've made good use of detect magic, light, read magic, create water, mage hand and mending. Cure Minor Wounds has saved plenty of characters at 1st and 2nd level as it autostabilises if on negative HP.
I liked this episode, but I miss the older format where there was more time to develop characters and the plots. Still had some great lines though:
Mickey: I'm a tin dog!
K9: We are in a car
Characters pretty much get something every level in 3e anyway like extra hp, improved BAB, special abilities, feats, stat boosts, spells so I don't see any reason to give the spoilt brat mentality more candy that will only keep the demands coming.
I use a fate point system which allows a character to spend a fp to avoid being killed off like this and I'd give the player that option or the chance to create another character if they wished to. Normally if I've got new players I'll try to avoid the encounters being too overpowering, but I...
