Your greatest level span in a campaign?

While I, in general, like the changes made in 3.0/3.5, the insanely rapid level advancement is not one of them. Back in 1st/2nd ed. there wasn't much need for Epic rules because getting a character to 20th level took longer than many campaigns have the energy to survive. Now, players...

    The Official Welcome Thread

Hmm, didn't realize there was an official welcome thread. I'm not a big fan of wading through Message boards, and really haven't bothered to look at the boards much here, but I have lurked for quite a while, if nothing else for the d20 news (and at Eric Noah's page before this). Me I've been...

    D&D 3.x BoVD 3.5e: Hellbound!

These requirements make sure that only a human bard will qualify at 5th level, not terrible, but it seems a bit much. It is unfortuneate that Feats like Abyssal Thrall/Thrall to Demon require a feat slot. I think that a sacrifice of XPs might be more appropriate... As written, the Charm...

    Are these templates reasonable?

Clearly it sounds as if you are building an "Amber"-esque game. I played in a 2ed. D&D game which incorporated much of Zelazny's myth and magic back in '88. I like what you've done here I think I'd go with: Lesser Blood of Creation +2 to (Str and Con). +2 to any one other ability (Dex, Int...

    D&D 3.x BoVD 3.5e: Hellbound!

Fair enough - I'm not much of a fan of Dragon Disciple, but I suppose as a low-level-caster-mainly-fighter type of character it can work. I was more pointing out that 5 levels of your revised version + 5 levels of Wizard would be worse than 10 levels of the origninal class which isn't all that...

Help ol' Ashy a bit, will ya? - determining aid for a party

Offer lots of help, some from allies in the church, some from political rivals. Make sure that if they bring non-hero types (read:low level leadership lackeys) that lots of them die. I wouldn't give them any aid in the form of an NPC greater than 8th level for this.

D&D 3.x Composite bows: no limit on bonus in 3.5?

Nah. Storm Giants and Solars need to have bow fun too!

    D&D 3.x BoVD 3.5e: Hellbound!

It is, no doubt, very heavy, as a class even without Full BAB advancement, or even one level of spell casting. I will, however, point out that you most likely have a character who is a wizard who is gaining phyisical stats and good BAB, in other words, the character is gaining things that...

    Worlock and Thrall to Graz'zt

I had thought of something like that, but a. the original Thrall version lets you in after 5th b. and most important, I thought that letting critters like succubi and lamias into the class would be appropriate.

    D&D 3.x BoVD 3.5e: Hellbound!

Nice job - interesting idea to pull the 'fiend' stuff out of Acolyte of the Skin, so that the character can choose which is more important, spell casting or gaining more fiendish power. The one change I would make would be to give Full BAB, consistant with outsider BAB gain rate, and when...

    Worlock and Thrall to Graz'zt

It seems unfortunate that the Worlock came out before the BoVD. Unfortuneately the Warlock was printed second, and as such doesnt link up well to the PrCs in the BoVD. As a start to tweaking the PrC's to match up with Worlocks, here is the modified requirements for (imo) the most likely...

PC's are in the process of killing an important story NPC, whats one to do?

Part of what you do should depend upon how you have reacted to them killing the NPC up until now. Did you adjudicate their actions as they took them, or did you try to talk them out of the course of action that they took, and did you say anything about your opinion of what they have done...

Fellow DM, How do you handle Hit Point at each new level ?

I've played in a campaign where this was used, and find it a decent rule. Really I suspect that the DM was using it as a way to try to get the HPs to be something close to average, I rarely saw people get less HPs (although it did happen on occasion) with the DMs roll, although the die was...

Sorceror, Bard, Warlock: Of What Value is Change?

Yes, and I think that is also the importance of order as well. I would also theorize a third reason: 3) So that a Sorcerer can keep a theme going in his spell list without boging his list down with too many spells of one type. ie - at low levels he takes Burning Hands to begin a Fire Sorcerer...

    Lost 4/6/05 SPOILERS!

It is possible that Locke really is not as nice as we would like to think, and the "my legs are giving out" was an act by Locke to get Boone to go up into the plane. Locke did have a vision of Boone all bloody before they set out for the plane...

Anyone got a good Fighter/Mage build?

Its one reason. He did mention that he was looking for a bit more fighter feats in his fighter/wizard build, and Combat Style gets you a feat. Another reason is that both Reflex and Fort saves both go up at second level. Another reason is to get more skill points (which is why you wait 3...

Anyone got a good Fighter/Mage build?

I have to agree with the "Go to Eldritch Knight" crowd. However, I think I would pick a build technique something like Ranger 1 Ranger 1/Wizard 1 Ranger 1/Wizard 2 Ranger 1/Wizard 3 Ranger 2/Wizard 3 Ranger 2/Wizard 4 Ranger 2/Wizard 5 Ranger 2/Wizard 5/Eldritch Knight 1 and from there on...

    Quick Draw usefulness?

It is useful for any character who intends to switch weapons in combat. Bow/crossbow users, and anyone who uses thrown weapons. I have a whip based character who switches from Whip to Long Sword to Light Crossbow during the course of combat, and for him I love it. With the 3.5 damage...

    Spell Review Process

Thats what I was looking for The FanCC method is the type of thing I was looking for. I looked around the internet a bit for the netbook of spells to see if they had such a thing before asking this question, and didn't find them myself. Anyone else?
