    Sorcerer variant- balanced?

The domain gives their spell knowledge base a theme - a bit of homage to the idea that their access to power comes from some distant conection to supernatural beings (be they outsiders, dragons, fey or something else). I've been fairly liberal in the source of selected domains, and given the...

    Weak Plothooks

Stripped down you have 2 choices, take the hook or not. This is a new DM, so you can assume that he isn't running a campaign based upon the idea of "What's there is there, and you can face it or go elsewhere", and you can be fairly assured that he doesn't have much in the way of back-up plot...

    Books of Swords

Sure. Once you decide upon a fixed power level, I am certain that we'd be happy to help design them especially if you find yourself stuck for ideas.

    Books of Swords

IIRC Stonecutters chief weakness was its interaction with other swords - that is if someone held Stonecutter and another Sword, then they turned to stone.

    Books of Swords

Giving the Swords a role-playing penalty to balance out a mechanical advantage is a bad idea. They really need to be built using the RAW with an equal value for their core abilities, and if there is some minor flavor based abilities that you want to add to each you can, but the Swords are REALLY...

    Books of Swords

Well, OK. Existing campaign. No gods - dragons instead, still a 'game'. Useing all 12. Major Artifacts. I think you are aiming a bit high with the whole 'Major Artifact' bit, but we'll can work backwords. If you are using all 12 swords, it could be important to know something about the...

    Sorcerer variant- balanced?

Along with the other mentioned changes, I give Sorcerers knowledge of spells of one cleric domain - it gives their spell selection a theme and gives them 2 spells to know whenever they get a new spell level. They do NOT get the domain power.

    Books of Swords

I ran a campaign storyline for that about 10 years ago. I have a few questions about how do you intend to use this storyline. Are you running a fresh new campaign set in Saberhagen's world, or are you introducing the forging of the Swords into an existing campaign? How are the gods involved...

    Sorcerer variant- balanced?

Yup. I do much the same. 4 skill points. Extra charisma skills. Eschew Materials (enhanced - may not spend gold pieces as items, instead must spend 1/25 the gold value in XPs). No Familair. Bonus feat (any) every 6th (which opens up the feat choices to familiars, spell focus, spell...

    Wil Wheaton Drops Dungeon Column

I liked Wil Save. It was usually the first thing I read (rather than just scanned through) when I got the new issue in the mail. I too would rather see Downer go that Wil Save, but I suppose thats not really the issue here, because there isn't a choice being offered. I trust Erik Mona...

How do you use published adventures?

Where's the: "I use them with minor modifications to fit into my campaign" While I almost never use them 'out of the box', most of the other choices work for how I use 'em.

    Worst Feat Ever

Exactly. Toughness can be a bit of waste once you approach double digit levels, and without an associated feat chain you have nothing to build on for higher levels. Which is something that, I suppose, could be its own thread: Build a Toughness based feat chain

    Worst Feat Ever

Wow, I play a fair number of casters, and I have NEVER taken either feat for the benefit of the feat itself. I believe I have 1 character that has Combat Casting because it was a PrC requirement, and I was annoyed at having to waste the feat. I see it like this: I haven't played a druid in...

    Worst Feat Ever

Toughness can be a dubious feat, but I'd have to say that Combat Casting and the plethora of +2/+2 feats (which I have house ruled into one feat - pick 2 skills) are worse. I have an NPC human fighter who joined one of the groups I run, a player who cannot normally play that day happened to be...

    Was I asking too much?

I've been using a barghest against one of the groups I run for about 4 levels now. The first ran into the barghest as: Sor2, Sor1/Clr1, Mnk2, Sor1/Rog1, Ftr2 The first time they met him he was looking to get 3 people to feed off of, and got 3 NPCs, and I seriously made 2 players...

    Is this character too pwerful?

That is, perhaps, unnecessarily harsh. I've watched some pretty amazing rolls over the years. I remember one player who could consistantly roll characters with multiple 17+ stats on 4d6 drop the low, in front of the whole group, with community dice. I also remember rolling up a (supposedly)...

1st trip to GenCon-Looking for tips

I've been going to Gen Con for a while, this year will be my 21st. With planning things will go great, but if you dont plan ahead, it will suck. I'm going to assume that you already have a hotel and transportation arranged If not, you need to NOW. Now as for things you need: Make a list of...
