I'm surprised at the "Depths of Madness" thing. I really liked the first book by the same author (Ghostwalker) and the short story he wrote connected to Depths. I was going to read Depths next...kinda a bummer.

1) I suppose I prefer the game. There are only a few Realms authors who I read regularly (Paul Kemp, Erik Scot de Bie, Elaine Cunningham). So, I tend to pick Realms novels by author and not by subject matter. 2) Game first. 3) NA 4) Probably would not have noticed the Realms novels...

But then they'd be build like chimps. That doesn't seem very halfing/hobbit-like. It would also be a bit odd. A 3' tall mass of muscle? I can't imagine a little halfing with a neck like Henry Rollins.

I actually like halflings, but the "short version" always seemed kind of silly when I really sat down and thought about it. It seems like the novelty of needing a climb check to scale a bar stool would wear off. Peeking in a window to see what the bad guys are doing? Well, you're gonna need...

I think FFE should be commending for doing a great service for gamer's everywhere by destroying those books. Most of them were so bad it was like reading a mind-blasting Lovecraftian tome with less interesting content and glossy paper. FFE wasn't real big on proof reading, editing or ya know...

Wow. That's pretty disappointing. I think this may win the award for "totally didn't get the meaning of the book title". They really should have used a different title. From what the OP says, the new title just doesn't make sense with this movie.

As long as people keep buying it, they'll find ways to cash in. Hopefully this new book isn't a "guide to previously published art & excerpts from books you've already read". That would be more than a little shameless.

Unless 4E blows me away when the PHB comes out, I'll probably be skipping it. Then again, I'm kind of getting tired of the slow combats and massive prep time of 3.X. I may try something a bit different once we've finished Red Hand of Doom & the Rise of the Runelords stuff for 3.5 Ed.

There are a bunch of rather unfortunate non-core feat names. Since they're in one of many, many splat books I haven't seen them come up in play all that often. In fact, I'm pretty sure only myself and our DM own every book that those feats you mentioned come from. Falling Star Strike and...

I'd be very happy to see more descriptive descriptors (heh) that actually fit the flavor of one or both of the main campaign settings. I just can't see names like Lightning Panther Strike fitting with the tone of FR or Eberron at all.

I think that would be disrespectful to Goathumpers everywhere.

So, who are the uh...fluff guys? I've been digging almost all of the 4E crunch stuff I've heard but the names are just way out there. I don't think I'm particularly grognard-ish but the flavor stuff in the new PHB doesn't sound like it fits ANY of WotC settings. That seems very odd to me.

I think having an encounter where lighting plays a role can be fun. That fun is kind of ruined when one or two of the PCs can see as normal. Just a guess, but I'd say darkvision is gone in order to make lighting more of an environmental hazard in the new encounter system. Oh, the torches are...

All joking aside...yeah, it does. These names are serious, Grade A Cheeze.
