Beyond Staunwark Island? (the best of other settings)

Do you like mixing genres? One of my favorites is to have D&D characters run into a more technologically advanced society. It's always fun roleplaying fantasy characters oohing and aahing over trains and blimps.

D&D 4E What would you want to see in 4e?

This is the big one for me. They need to sort out the CR, LA, ECL, & HD business and just have a Monster Level. Monsters should be revamped w/the consideration that people will be playing them.

How do you deal with armies?

That's pretty much how I do it too. I don't like the omniscient generals peering down at a battlefield from above. Unless they fly up there, they just have to listen to reports on how their troops are doing.

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

No I think it would be valid. As long as they are never entirely forgotten, I'm happy. I'm not of the opinion that other people have to or should read the books that I love. They don't appeal to everyone, and that's okay. If they did appeal to everyone they'd never go out of print. And books...

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

Agreed. "A Princess of Mars" came out in 1917, and how many of us have read it? The first Conan story came out in the early 30s. Some of the kids today are going to find this stuff and keep it alive.

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

I think that back in the day D&D had to reference fantasy books so people could get what the game was all about. Now, I don't think that's necessary. D&D has enough material on it's own that a newcomer could get it w/o ever reading a classic fantasy book (or a current one). I don't think...

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

Another similarity between D&D magic and Dying Earth's is that there were only a limited number of spells, created long ago, that all wizards learned, shared, traded, or kept secret. A common pool of spells. This changed in D&D, and now it's not unheard of for a wizard to create a new spell...

    Rusting Grasp and Melee Weapons

It looks like everything that applies to the weapon's AC (deflection, dex, size, and a special +5 bonus) should all apply to a touch attack or a normal attack equally.

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

Don't forget the Planet of Adventure tetralogy. It's my favorite of Vance's SF. It's a little more cohesive than a lot of his other short sf novels.

    Sacrificing verisimilitude or adventure

Yeah, that's pretty much how I do it. Anything not yet committed to film can be rewritten. As far as delaying a villain- sure, unless I've already clearly set some sort of countdown/deadline.

    Would D&D be easier if...

I think it would be about the same learning curve either way. Otherwise it's just a matter of taste. Me, I'd like it if they had more feat trees and fewer goofy prestige classes.

Can you coup de grace with an Inflict Wounds spell?

But they are not "armed w/a melee weapon," so whether it's a touch attack or not is irrelevant. Is a monk's unarmed attack considered a "weapon?" It's definitely a melee attack, and is considered "armed." But does Armed = Weapon? If it does, than both a monk and someone using a an Inflict...

Responsibility for fun: DMs and/or/vs. Players

Really? I see trying to cater my players various tastes as part of the fun and challenge of being a GM. I think it sharpens the skills. I wish I had a group of even more varied people as none of my players are very tactically minded.

    Ask me about Shadowrun 4th!

Man, I haven't played Shadowrun in a long time- since it first came out. I remember the setting a lot better than the rules, but I always really liked that priority table for character creation. I thought it was a cool way to customize a character, but still keep them relatively balanced and...

What are the different archetypes of superheroes/supervillains?

Don't forget the Power Armor/Supersuit: A normal human( or otherwise) wearing a robotic suit. Such as Iron Man, Dr. Doom, Steel, and even The Scorpion. The Demon Possession A hero or villain cursed by an ancient supernatural power. Like Jason Blood/Etrigan, Wendigo, or Johnny Blaze/Ghost...

    Death by Caffine

92.14 cans of Afri Cola. I miss Afri Cola.

    Where is Awakened Golem?

I don't think there's a template for it, b/c constructs can be as intelligent as you want them to be. For example look at the Inevitables.

    Running an infiltration mission

Ever read Watership Down? Big Wig joining the Efrafans is my favorite infiltration story. If it's a cell (like a terrorist cell) that means that this group of cultists doesn't know much about any of the other cells, and there's no hierarchal structure to the cult. So the PCs could probably...

What sort of setting do you use for your superhero games?

Homebrew. Half the fun of a supers rpg is making up new villains and heroes.

    Willingly Be Sneak Attacked

wait, does that mean that a spell that does cold damage is not a weapon-like spell for a frost barbarian?
