With this knowledge in hand, any DM could fudge the rolls enough to scare the bejeezes out of the PC's and maybe get them to run away for their lives. If it requires downing half the party on round one so that the other half decides to pick them up and run for it, then great. You could make the...
I would go with a single check even though multiple missles MAY hit the target. If one missle hits, the damage is 1d4+1, if 2 missles hit, the damage roll is 2d4+2, etc. Not 2 different instances of 1d4+1 each.
After reading the whole thread, I understand your initial ruling but also agree with where you've gotten to after the point and counterpoints offered by the masses. Too many fictional variables to totally rule out a caster being able to cast to some degree either in webs or in manacles (did they...
I didn't play Planescape in 2E, so I can't say that I miss the tieflings from then. But they sound more diverse than the current selection, so I'd welcome having the choice available in the PHB.
I like that idea. You could have the road come around a corner right before the ambush, so it's plausible for the PC's to stumble onto the scene surprising the one goblin. Or maybe they were smart enough to set up a watcher in either direction up the road. The PC's have a chance to spot that...
I like that they're limiting the starting stats to lower amounts. It gives room for growth and makes it not feel as expected to start with massive stat bonuses.
I'll admit to being a DM that has allowed some power gaming as far as starting stat rolls go. I used to allow 4d6 (drop lowest) rolled...
I hope they're just a vocal minority. Maybe people got so used to giving feedback in the playtest and getting changes made that it still seems the right thing to do. Overall, I'm very pleased with the new system and looking forward to playing it. I can't wait to see the PHB and other core books...
I can see all those as okay changes. Especially #3! That seems weird that you can't fight with 2 fists or punch someone with an off hand while wielding a sword or whatever in the other hand.
The way this opening post is phrased is like someone trying to convice WOTC to change the plan and make these changes before time runs out. Time has already run out. The PHB is off to the printer.
Feats, for instance. You claim that they are 'treating feats like variant rules'. Guess what...
I voted 'better'. It is going to be what I play and from what I've seen and heard it will be better than previous editions overall.
Each edition has evolved over time and offered improvements to the whole. I'm happy to try this new edition that has the best of old and new IMHO.
This is one of the best explanations I've ever heard for this that doesn't change a thing in the rules but explains how the 'real' economy isn't what it would seem to be based on the prices the PC's pay. And you are the only other person I've ever heard that uses the term 'murder hobos' outside...
Here's a quick cut/paste from Reddit where a couple of posters (redkat85 and wayoverpaid) were summarizing 5E:
*Defenses don't increase with level. Plate armor means AC 18 forever (unless it's magic), whether that's on a Level 20 demon or a Level 4 Fighter. This is actually a good thing...
I'll get the starter set and PHB for sure. Almost certainly the MM and DMG in time as well. Beyond that is very uncertain. Might share costs with the gaming group for some stuff. Have to wait and see. Pretty sure that we'll end up playing it at some point. We all really enjoyed playing the...
As long as people actually wait to see what the actual content is before complaining about it, instead of engaging in the rampant, unfounded, wild speculation that has been going on here for the last several days. Then I may be able to stomach continuing to come here to find the occasional bit...
The D&D Basic red box starter set was the holy grail of starters for me. From starting it like a story, to defining terms little by little and introducing rules as needed in the example story. It still amazes me when I pull my copy out to look at it again. The more akin to that this new starter...
1. Okay, as long is there is some instance of ongoing poison damage I can point to in the rules that justifies the existence of the Neutralize Poison effect of the spell, then that is fine. It's a piece that they will likely add more into the rules for as things go along.
2. re: Drow breaking...
1. The Restoration, Lesser spell says that one of the uses to neutralize poison "If the creature is suffering from any poisons, choose one of them and neutralize it". Our party was fighting a Green Dragon last night and it used it's breath weapon on them multiple times which promted the question...
