A detailed town in the DMG: your preference?

I think it would be nice. Examples are always nice. As long as it doesn't take up some ridiculous page count, I see nothing wrong with a sample "iconic" town. Honestly, I'm surprised at some of the negativity directed towards this idea. Most of the DMG's contents are dead weight to the...

From WotC_Logan: "Maybe a Charlie Brown Christmass Tree"

As long as they get rid of the necessity to "trade up," I'll be pretty happy. I think that by itself is one of the biggest detractors from an item's "coolness." That magic sword you found in the musty tomb back when you were level 2 was really awesome and special, but by the time you're on...

    ability scores and modifiers

People aren't happy with a +1 ability mod?!? Man, I remember when you were damn lucky if you got even one ability score with a positive modifier. Call me a grognard, but I really don't like this attitude. Back on topic: I'm pretty sure those modifiers are the current 3E modifiers + 1/2...

    A shared world?

Eh, I like this because it allows me to drop the module into any suitably generic fantasy world.

Every revolution of 'Core' books themed by Power Source?

Because they've already said numerous times that the Wizard and Sorcerer are very different from one another in 4E.

Future Forgotten Realms Novels: Canon or Not?

FR has always been driven, in part, by its ongoing metaplot. FR source books should reflect events from the novels, so the novels should be canon.

Keep your filthy points of light away from me!

There's nothing but the flimsiest evidence that points to this happening. And a great many players hated the, "it was always like this; you just didn't notice," retcon from 2nd to 3rd edition. Neither option is going to make everyone happy. I don't mind as long as it leads to an equally or...

Every revolution of 'Core' books themed by Power Source?

I get the feeling that Arcane, Divine and Martial are the "core" power sources, and while subsequent PHBs, DMGs, and MMs will add new power sources as well as providing more classes and what not for those initial three sources.

Has traditional Forgotten Realms been "mined out"?

Isolated corners of Faerun with little influence on the heartlands, and in the case of the Icewind Dale trilogy, nothing outside the realm of what a single adventuring party could accomplish. I think you're mistaken. Also, Daztur, what makes good novel protagonists poor NPCs? I've used many...

Has traditional Forgotten Realms been "mined out"?

The novels don't have to be that. The early books didn't shake the Realms to their core, and it added to the verisimilitude of the setting to have this big pool of NPCs who would cross paths with the party.

D&D 3.x What if 3.5 and 4E split the market?

Supposedly, there's over 300 monsters in the new MM, and I've seen no evidence to say that it won't include the classic spread of giants, dragons, golems, etc. This is just more baseless worrying.

Keep your filthy points of light away from me!

Comparing the net sum of the ToT to what is happening now is poor logic. They killed off a whole whack of gods with the ToT as well. As far as really important gods go, the ToT killed off 4, while the Spell Plague and associated events have only killed 2. Sure, lots of other side deities are...

Ruins of a Better Time- The Europeans of the Middle Ages lived in a land that was full of crumbling relics of the Roman Empire hearkening back to a "better" time of learning, unity, and civility. However much this was true, and however much this was just wishful thinking on the part of European...

    Martial equivalent of Wish..

A good DM knows enough how to mediate the effects of Wishes and Miracles to make sure they're not game breaking and don't provide the user with an "I win" button. Really, while they can create amazing effects, they're the kind of spell that's rarely cast, and when it is, creates a benefit or...

[FR] Everyone take a deep breath...

Oh please. Every change we know about can be directly attributed to the common complaints about the Realms, and you have no idea what lengths they are going to to make in game excuses for rules changes you don't know anything about. We actually know very little about what is changing in the...

Wait, you honestly think that you won't be able to run a pre-1385 Forgotten Realms campaign with the 4E rules? I don't understand this mindset. The same people who argue about how easy it would have been to just gloss the 4E rules over previous editions' fluff instead of inventing a time jump...

How is someone abandoning canon if they choose to set a campaign before the Spell Plague? Have I abandoned canon if I decide to set a campaign in Jhaamdath before the fall of Netheril, or in the Vast before the Time of Troubles?
