    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

P.S.: And Xetheral , you are absolutely right. That’s what I was saying about official rules having something house-rules will never have. Thank you! ^^

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

In PoL, getting magic items was (initially) pretty easy compared to some other editions. Plus, I have my campaign world with street fairs filled with magic items. I hope you realize that this is not solely about my setting :)

D&D 5E (2014) Points of Light setting and current cross-over strategy: Round peg in the square hole.

Personally, I use PoL as a base, and add stuff in. And, in the end, the game feels much like Final Fantasy with D&D from most settings. That includes modern firearms, gunblades, buster swords, chocobos, moogles, etc. I love that crazy setting! :o

D&D 5E (2014) In fact, INSERT RULES HERE was a key part of the 3rd edition, and it means 5th edition is still missing full support for this previous edition.

AaronOfBarbaria ,I saw this supposed system. I also gave my opinion about this subject in the original thread. lowkey13 , when they are small additions, about more-or-less personal subjects, letting the DMs do the work is more tolerable. When we’re talking about whole subsystems which used to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

I’m sorry to say that, but 5e’s magic system is not Vancian. It is, basically, a 3e Sorcerer; a system I personally call “The Charge System”. Vancian is what I call “The Slot System”. In this case, the slot system is pretty separate from LFQW; that’s the way spells scaled back them. I’ve played...

D&D 5E (2014) In fact, INSERT RULES HERE was a key part of the 3rd edition, and it means 5th edition is still missing full support for this previous edition.

Honestly, they did say the game would support my play-style, that they were hearing all the fans, that the final game would be pretty “modular”, etc. But here I am :) Currently my feelings for 5e are not even mixed: they are pretty much a Pandora’s Box (well, Jar, but that’s not the point) which...

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

Ok, let’s just get to the same page. We’re talking about 5e, right? Because, as far as my memory goes – I don’t have access to the books anymore – the supposedly “rules” for magic item creation, buying and selling were pretty… “Open”, to not say vague, at best. Of course, it is better than...

    D&D 5E (2014) Quasi Magical Nukes?

Well, I thought a little about this, and the conclusion I came is: Fire (and possibly radiant) damage for heat. Thunder damage for the shockwave. Poison (I’m not buying into necrotic) and a disease for radiation/gamma burst. This would be at the explosion itself. Then the fallout, which would be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Quasi Magical Nukes?

Ok, what I’m saying here may be wrong, but I’ll try my best – I failed some tests at Physics College, but that’s very hard. Three things to consider: First, detonating a nuke right on the ground severely reduces its destructive potential, especially the shockwave. Normally nukes are detonated...

D&D 5E (2014) Map of the Great Wheel Cosmology

I don't know about FR, but in 4e, each "world" was its own Mortal World, that is, its own plane. They were probably two "know worlds" connected, together with FR's Feywild and FR's Shadowfell.

    Planescape Casting off Planescape

Hey, guys! Thank you for the input. It was a personal issue of mine, and I needed to know it first before my friends and I start to buy lots of pdfs. I’ll tell them this information. @Greenmtn hahaha yeah, I know Planescape is a much beloved setting, very important to D&D, many people connect...

    D&D 5E (2014) How OLD are YOU

    I'm 21years-old, with birthday in March. Started playing D&D in 2009, with 4e ^^

D&D 5E (2014) Give me your craziest, most GONZO PC concepts!

Well, talking about PCs, I remembered one character: a noble diplomat minotaur barbarian. I don't think I need to say more about him.

D&D 5E (2014) Give me your craziest, most GONZO PC concepts!

Sadly, I don't know a lot of Gonzo PCs. But I have some NPCs. One is a 200-year old cyborg, named Leonardo da Vinci, with appearance and personality of dr. Gregory House. The other one (in a initially 4e campaign) is a level 40 solo, 3 meters high Kobold. Super-strong and his name is Klubba. He...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dumb orc Class?

Here's a suggestion for background: he was a genius, but his loved one was in danger and he decided to make a pact with a devil. But the pact didn't demand his soul. The price was his intelligence. Now he had amnesia because of that change and doesn't even realize what happened. The goal now for...

Have you ever played a pacifist character?

Honestly I don’t see why the “murder hobo” stereotype applies to PCs. In my table, killings usually (99% of the time) are justified – and therefore, not murder. Someone is either trying to kill you, trying to kill another one, trying to kill the entire world, sentenced to death by authorities...

    Planescape Casting off Planescape

Honestly, that is a good idea. No need to carefully detail every plane to start the game; especially when time-travel will get the spotlight. I just have kind of an urge to do a bigger, more detailed game; it’s a mini-game in itself. However, I do need to think about the necessities of my...

    Planescape Casting off Planescape

Not quite sure. I’m divided between a bigger, more complex thing, and a much simpler cosmos. The first option is not finished; I need to refine the connections and role of each plane, but will include: Material(s), Spirit World, Places for aligned creatures (but different than the Great Wheel)...

    Planescape Casting off Planescape

I'm just worried about replacing the Great Wheel Cosmology. I thought that this would impact the game, somehow. One of the biggest reasons I loved the 3e Manual of the Planes was the ability to create your own cosmology.

    Planescape Casting off Planescape

Well, let’s see the problem… I’m just learning AD&D 2e; I’m really enjoying it. I plan to use my personal setting in the next game. Honestly, I can see that 2e encouraged lots of world building and setting material. The variety of campaign sourcebooks amazes me, and I’m already choosing...
