D&D General Kender PC, Yes or No?

No, I have never seen a Kender played who was not disruptive in play. The last time I tried to go along with it, after mycharacter discovered some of his equipment missing and the whole Kender thing was explained to him, he said yeah, okay, I will play along. So my character started carrying all...

I want smaller, leaner core books.

I am not sure there is much to say here. I am not surprised that you or anyone one else has a different experience than I do, I was simply expressing an opinion based on own experience, I thought I made this clear in my post, if I did not, I apologize.

I want smaller, leaner core books.

My experience is, people like the theory of a rules lite game, but rarely actually like to them in reality. D&D 5E is a perfect example of this. The free rules, one of the starter boxes and an imagination, is plenty enough to play the game forever, and yet how many people actually do that? A few...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bladesinger with a staff

I think I agree with you in principle, the feat probably does need to be limited to 1 handed weapons. However, my counter argument is this feat is balanced out by the fact that it is a feat and the character is therefore paying a price for it, they have to give up an ASI or give up an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bladesinger with a staff

I certainly agree with disallowing ranged weapon, but I do not think I would object to a Half Orc Barbarian Weapon Dancer with a Greatsword, named Buttercup.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bladesinger with a staff

This actually sounds like the makings of a decent feat. Weapon Dancer: Increase your Dexterity score by 1, to a maximum of 20. You add the Finesse quality to a single weapon type that does not already have it.

D&D General Playing Nicely In The Sandbox

Sorry Mr. Greenwood, but Elminster died years ago along with Drizzt in my campaign. In my alternate version of the Realms, the world is scared with the actions of player characters, in my opinion, if the PC's cannot effect change in their world, then we might as well stop playing and just wait...

D&D 5E (2014) DC Comics Publishing Dungeons & Dragons Sourcebook

Publishing an RPG in Comic Book format is something I thought was a good idea for a couple of years now. I think it would be pretty easy to publish a basic system in 3 books (PHB,DMG,MM), 40 pages each, costing $5 each. At that price point it is affordable by nearly everyone, and even if they...

    How Expensive is Too Expensive?

For me the price I am willing to pay for an RPG is directly related to how much I will play it. A game I will never play but I might be able to use with other systems might be worth a few bucks, but it is certainly not worth my game budget for the whole year. I went all in on GURPS Dungeon...

Blockchain and RPGs: When Fantasy Meets (Digital) Reality

D&D 5E (2014) Help me Build this lvl 20 Character

Go with #4, except take War Domain, take your first level as Wizard and you 2nd level as Cleric, after that, all Wizard. For your Wizard Archetype, take War Wizard. At the earliest opportunity, take the War Caster feat, personally I would take Variant Human, so I could grab it at 1st level. This...

D&D 5E (2014) After character death - new character wealth and magic

I use a protege system, where the players can divert up to 25% of experience points gained during adventuring to a protege who has some link to the main character. They can also divert gold and unused magic items to these other characters. These proteges are often close by, guarding horses or...

The "Superstitious Mumbo Jumbo" Of Dice Rolling

Actually there is a reason we have lucky or unlucky dice. Lou Zocchi has a really good explanation as to why some dice roll really good and why some dice roll really bad. https://youtu.be/MRzg_M8pQms

News Digest: New D&D Licensed Products, Steve Jackson Games Annual Report and New Products, Internat

Reading all the criticisms of DFRPG, I think most of it has some validity. This is why I am thinking The Fantasy Trip might end up being a sort of reset button for Steve Jackson Games RPG line.

News Digest: New D&D Licensed Products, Steve Jackson Games Annual Report and New Products, Internat

I was just speculating, at this point no one but Steve Jackson and his inner circle know what he is thinking, but if I were him, in todays market, I would definitely be thinking about an RPG that has a low cost to entry and a nice gentle learning curve, which sounds a lot like TFT and nothing...

News Digest: New D&D Licensed Products, Steve Jackson Games Annual Report and New Products, Internat

They fulfilled the Kickstarter and I would say they exceeded expectations as well, I was a $250 "I want it all" contributer and I felt it was worth every penny. The problem is, Steve Jackson Games was hoping the product would have a wider audience and would act as a gateway product. I suspect...

News Digest: New D&D Licensed Products, Steve Jackson Games Annual Report and New Products, Internat

Steve Jackson Games said Dungeon Fantasy Boxed Set, Disc World and Mars Attacks were tests to see if there was still a large enough market for print GURPS product and it looks like the answer is no. I think this is probably becoming more and more true of the whole hobby and I would not be...

    Whatever Happened to D&D's Underdog?

I remember giving zero level characters a try back in the day, but as I recall, we did not particularly like it, mainly because it really did not change much. If your high attribute was Intelligence, there really was no question what you were going to do, absolutely no one decided to choose a...

2017’s Highest Grossing English Language Tabletop Roleplaying Crowdfunding Campaigns

Why isn't Dungeon Fantasy on this list? Steve Jackson Games raised $176,450 from 1,587 backers, that should have put it at #10 on this list. Edit - Never mind I am an idiot, Dungeon Fantasy funded in 2016.

    The Fantasy Trip Comes Home

We did not play the advanced game at all, but we did play Melee and Wizard at lunch when we were in high school. It was portable, easy to learn and quick to play, everything we needed in a lunch time game. While a Dungeon Fantasy style boxed set would be okay, I will probably buy it, but I don't...
