    Archer Ranger vs. TWF Ranger

This is actually the way to go. Unlike other classes, none of the encounter powers are dependent on which path you take and the ability to wield two weapons of equal size and free toughness will come up way more often than what the ranged option give you. Now, that might change with Martial...

Do you play RPGs at conventions?

Do you play RPGs at conventions? What types of games do you play and why? The reason I ask is that I play a lot of WotC RPGA Living Campaigns. It's a good alternate to home games for those with busy schedules. I can play one character and go anywhere in the world and find a table relatively...

    Population growth formula?

You also need to consider tech levels. Better technology allows for faster growth. Just do a random google search for population growth models. Here's one I found in less than a minute of googling: Medieval Demographics Made Easy

    2011 Campaign Setting... Azeroth?

I've been out of touch with WoW for several months now (even though I'm still subscribed technically), but this thread made me look up what's new with the game. Holy Crap! There's a new expansion and they're blowing up the world! Werewolves and Goblins as PCs! Gnome Priests! Tauren...

This. Use your party. Delay until an ally goes and allows you to do this.

    D&D 4E 4e Dark Sun

The assassin is now in DDI and probably comes closer to the athasian bard than the 4e bard.

    Duel Wielding Implements - Clarifications

A lot of the wands in AV is also like that. Some of the properties specifically states that you gain the property only when you use that particular wand to attack with the power.

    Implements and recurring damage

Yeah. The Controllers held redefine the battlefield, but if your allies aren't helping to position themselves and the bad guys around your zones, it won't be as effective as it can be.

    Ancestral Whispers

Considering that specific skills aren't really necessary, I don't see a big issue. Finding information is more than just a streewise roll now for example. It's a skill challenge. Likewise, most skills have workarounds so that there isn't really an absolute need to have a specific skill. It...

    Let's break the Realms!

If Imaskar had blocked access to all the gods (and not just he mulhorandi/untheric pantheons), and no avatars were sent to bypass the godshield, then Faerun would be a much different place. No gods and their conflicts. No chosen and their meddling. No churches and ready access to healing via...

    Playing Apparent Losers

I had one character for the RPGA (known for having some tough games) that I intentionally created as a design challenge to see if I can make a "weak" character effective in 3.5e. I created a single-classed melee bard. I played him all the way up to 13th level before the campaign ended. He was...

    Playing online

I'd go with the suggestion to check out the RPGA as well (sponsored by WotC). Many people use it as a means to find local players and game with them in neutral settings before forming private play groups. Online play is also well represented. The cool thing I like about it is the ability to...

"4E, as an anti-4E guy" (Session Two)

In a game where people are fighting at full capacity at 1 hit point and then unconscious and dying 1 hit point later, does it really matter? The 1-1-1 rule is just to speed up play. Nothing more. Nothing less. A wound system that affects character effectiveness in combat would likewise be...

4E Power Creep--Forked Thread: As long as we are talking...

Good, but not better than other powers. I had this on one of my characters. I was consistently able to use it by round 2 or 3 when I was 1st/2nd level. By the time 3rd level came around and I had a second encounter power, the bonus often wouldn't apply til the 3rd or 4th round of combat...

4E Power Creep--Forked Thread: As long as we are talking...

I don't see the power creep either. I do see more options available though, some of which might suit someone's play style better, and might be mistaken for power creep. Take Avenger for instance. Mechanically, the ability to roll double is about the same as bonus damage when it comes to...

    Dragon equipment

Because masterwork armor have better armor ratings than normal and giving a 1st level guy +4 AC better than what a guy his level should have at 1st level is a really bad idea. At higher levels, it just fits the math of appropriate defense scores.

Battlerager Vigor limiting it - ideas?

Yeah, but not all of a battlerager's attacks have the invigorating keyword, nor is invigorating just a battlerager's thing since other fighters can use it. They stack, so this just means that he gets more temp HPs when he uses invigorating keyword attacks.

    Implement Weapons

Other than stepping on the existing schtick of some weapons (Avandra's Whisper, Holy Avenger, etc), and feats (Arcane Implement for instance allows any arcane class to wield a bladed weapon as an implement by picking swordmage), there's no real mechanical issue. Frankly, I would just do what...

Divine Implements: Why only one type?

Other than for reasons of style and fluff, why would it make a difference? Is there some specific property of other implements that you want? If it's just a style thing, then calling your holy symbol a holy miter doesn't make a difference and something you can already do. Mechanically, I like...
