    Shorten Combat: reduce complexity 20%.

In general, combats shouldn't be taking 90 minutes in the first place. If it does, it probably means one of the following: 1) Too many players (each player is usually equal to about 10 minutes, so 5 players = 50 min tops). 2) Too many monsters (the average fight is supposed to be equal to...

    Interesting Post

Ha! Your files are faulty! I haven't touched WoW in almost a month! Dwarf Fortress on the other hand... /sigh I can't believe a free game that relies on ASCII characters for its graphics has eclipsed a game I'm paying monthly for...

    Not all Healing Surges

Seems like too much work for too little fun. If you want to, once in a while, impart a sense of danger by taking away all healing surges, you can do that (escape from prison scenario, etc). But doing it just to do it seems to have no point.

New character: Avenger (I admit I have doubts...)

Another possiblity is a Bard. If you take a minimum of 13 str/dex, you can stack a bunch of striker multi-class feats that will allow you to go nova in one or two rounds and deal a ton of damage, or use one per round to cover a whole fight. You can stack: * Hunter's Quarry for two rounds on...

    Healing Questions

Let's try a different tack. You're not granting healing. You're granting a creature the ability "Regenerate X". Healer's brooch applies to healing effects YOU have, not healing abilities you impart to others.

What are your experiences with Radiant Pulse (9th level Paladin Daily)

Unless you fight in a lot of enclosed spaces, Crown of Glory would probably do more damage than Radiant Pulse. Also, keep in mind that you don't HAVE to use a 9th level daily. You can pick a 5th or 1st level daily that you like better in that 9th level slot. Personally, I'd pick a power that...

    Readying a Silence Spell?

Grats. You've discovered how our 3rd level party was able to beat what was supposed to be a 12th level recurring villain :) But yeah. Everyone capable of casting silence should have this available at all times for this purpose. Get a scroll even (or three).

    Need flying mount suggestions....

If you don't want to deal with the hassle of actual animals in the campaign, there's always spells (phantom steed is an 8th level ritual) and items (ebony fly from AV). Adventurer's Vault also gives levels of mounts if you were to consider them treasure. I think hippogriffs are within reach of...

    metamagic feat Quicken

For wizards, I took it whenever I could spare a 5th level spell slot and not feel regret doing so. For clerics though, I took it as soon as I hit 9th for some quickened divine favor goodness. Much earlier if your DM allows divine metamagic shenanigans.

    The Avenger "Trap".

In general, I've found the number one rule for strikers is "if you're not attacking the tank's target, you're doing it wrong." There are numerous exceptions of course, but you're usually better of attacking the same thing the other party members are attacking.

Can an immediate interrupt stop movement?

You know, going into this, I was in the "each square of movement is a discrete action" camp and wouldn't have allowed negating the move with the interrupt. Then I thought about charges. Would negating the conditions of a charge (2 squares of move) invalidate the attack? I would say yes...

    Prep without players - wasted?

I usually only ever prep combats. It's really the only thing that is firmly set in the rules and people will complain if you misread a power and kill a PC with it.

    Warden Armor Class

As you get higher in level, the ability to make multiple saves will the be the stand out feature of the Warden. High AC doesn't mean squat when you can't stop the bad guys from going around you to hit your allies who have even worse AC because you're stunned, dazed, immobilized, blind, etc.

    DnD Story Submission - Where?

Just make up new names for everything specific to WotC and FR. Then use the find and replace function of whatever word processing app you're using. Done.

    Double check my houserules?

If this is truly your first 4e game, then I'd suggest to just play with the core rules as is. Not everyone experiences the problem of "the grind". Just use Index Cards for initiative. It's much simpler. The "waiting for my turn" problem of 3e (especially high level 3e play) is mostly gone...

How would you build a ranger companion feat?

I'd make it a companion creature (DMG2) and just increase the number of opponents the PCs face by one. That way, it doesn't make a single character unduly powerful compared to anyone else and the challenge level is still balanced.

    Unlimited ammo items variant:

Nice idea. I agree that simply producing endless ammo is a lackluster effect. But that's way too much rolling to be doing for every combat. Probably a lot better to just make them item daily powers.

    Romans + Druids + Cthulhu

An ambitious roman general starts expanding more into druidic lands. The druids feel threatened. Some renegade druids unleash the Elder Evils they've been keeping at bay for millenia at the Romans. It gets out of hand. What are you doing about other fantasy races? Is this going to be a...
