WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

I think that's a super idea! Additional motivation for those that choose to participate can only be a good thing. :D Much like the November Novel writing event, you could do it by the honor system. A weekly stacked rankings of the writers by word count, their change in position, number of weeks...

WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

Yes, but how many fiction writers frequent the Wizards web site, in particular the very poor novel news section? (Rhetorical question, none of us know for certain.) It's been a bit since I've flipped through Writer's Market, but I'd hazard to say that Wizards of the Coast isn't on the rotation...

WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

I provided the figure of 60K (the bare minimum I'd say) and the more realistic 90K. You can certainly go longer but I'm not sure that's realistic given the timeframe. As others have said, there are no hard, fast rules on word count for a novel.

WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

The only reason I asked was because, in your very first post to this thread, you passed yourself off as a published author. You made no mention, however, of what those credentials were. Thus, you passed yourself off as an "expert" in the discussion as it relates to centers of power (expert...

WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

Wow. So the submission guidelines are wrong? They're lying to us? :) Yet haven't been published anywhere else? If they're that good then why would they wait until now? ("My work is too good for Pocket Books or TOR -- I'll wait until those Wizards guys have an Open Call….") ;) I, again...

WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

I disagree with this advice. If you write at the reasonable pace of 500 words per hour, those 18 hours will generate 9K words a week. In two months you'll have 72K words, within the realm of a novel. With that said, there's merit in having an established daily schedule as "two" suggests for...

Starship Combat - best rules you have seen

The starship combat and construction rules for the Decipher Star Trek RPG, of course! But, then, I'm biased as I wrote them. ;) Coda is pretty D20-compatible so it wouldn't be a big stretch to convert. The Narrator's Guide includes the complete starship construction system and combat system...

Quality, price, and the place for PDFs in the print industry

My rant Okay, Karg started this thread at my prodding, so time to weigh in with my own rants. I'm going to back up what I can with figures but I haven't spent a great amount of time in analysis. Meaning, I haven't intentionally cooked my numbers one way or the other. ;) 1) PDF Value: This one...

Quality, price, and the place for PDFs in the print industry

LOL! :) If you don't care why did you cite them as an example? You just going to keep spouting off product names until you hit one that supports your supposition? :D I think C&C is also a poor example to prove your point; I wouldn't be surprised if it did sell 100,000 units because it filled the...

Quality, price, and the place for PDFs in the print industry

Reality check: You should be careful when you make such statements. You've just displayed an alarming lack of understanding of the market you purport to be in. Wizard's has sold -- as of a year ago -- over 1 million copies of their rulebooks (PHB, DMG, MM) for D&D with an average of 300,000...

How much to pay for writers of PDF products

[/b]And…so? I agreed with Morrus' statement as well. The question was one of "How much should a company pay for writers of products that are intended for PDF distribution?" Morrus responded with "No difference, really. They're doing the same work - it's up to the publisher what he does with that...

How much to pay for writers of PDF products

Tell you what -- you start the thread and I'll drop in and participate. I've felt a rant on pay scale, open calls, and PDF costs coming on for sometime now. ;)

How much to pay for writers of PDF products

As do I, but the sad reality is that PDF publishers pay a lot less than print. This is even in light of their (PDF publishers) reduced costs. To be fair, a 'successful' PDF sells a lot less than most print products, thus there isn't as much $ to go around. I'd say $.03 at a minimum and that's...

    D20 OGC Master Compilation.

Considering every Joe and his cat (sorry Joes!) has their own "D20 publishing company" I'm not sure a closed distribution would work. :) I get the impression that PDF publishers are all pretty much selling to one another…that'd document would get out quick. Plus, how do you handle freelancers...

$2000 for ALL future Fast Forward products

Then walk into any game store and pick them up... FFE only had to destroy copies (according to the press release) in their posession; retailers and distributors are under no such obligation. My FLGS has all their FFE product heavily discounted. Not a hot seller in my area, apparently. *shrug*...
