And high-level minions who will kill you for a fortune in orcish plate armour?

    Goblin Picador

Forcing a player to spend an action point in order to pull off something ridiculous but flashy is a perfectly acceptable trade-off, IMO. I'm going to use that.

    Goblin Picador

By Hypersmurf, maybe. But applied to the rest of us, it's just more hyperbole.

    Goblin Picador

I get the feeling that this sort of thing is what they meant when they were talking about how it matters now what weapon you take as a fighter. This is exactly the sort of thing I envision fighters being able to "unlock" by being proficient in a particular weapon.

QFT. There is already a thread for this. If you don't like that thread, start a new one for complaining about HP. All this cross-posting of snarky commentary concerning pet peeves by everyone with pet peeves is really starting to stink. If you have a dead horse that you think needs more...

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

    Again, well done, pemerton.

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

How about, in order to judge a book, you must know what it contains. If you haven't read a book you don't know what it contains. If you don't know what it contains, you can't judge it. How do you find out what it contains? By reading it. Having read it, you may then judge it. Therefore, in...

    Tactical Boardgame?

Most LG adventures I played, in brief: DM: One paragraph of backstory, and you're standing at the door outside of the first encounter of four that you will face. PCs: We totally game the system and ignore all character-based concerns in order to totally mulch all four encounters as quickly as...

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

This formulation is nonsense, and doesn't represent anyone's position. How about this instead: In order to pass judgement on a game system, you must be able to answer objections that are raised over hypothetical situations that would require a reference to the rules. In as much as you are...

    D&D 4E 4e Healing - Is This Right?

I can't believe it took this long for someone to point this out. If we're going to accept that hit points are abstract, the problem with them isn't that it takes this long or that long to get them back, or that you can cure them instantly with magic, or that there's no debilitating effects that...

    D&D 4E 4e Healing - Is This Right?

If it was a cleric horse, then there's no problem, right?

    Nice job, pemerton.

    Solo playtest...

Also, one 6th level monster in 3e is more like 4 6th level monsters in 4e. A single 6th level solo would annihilate the fighter, but one gnoll is only one quarter of a 6th level encounter.

Or else they're not being prominently featured, and the word count is being reserved for those options that are.

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

No. These are things that need a well-developed system in order to function, and as such are (and always have been) the focus of discussions about the game. How many RP threads are there usually in the Rules forum? How much text in 1st ed. was devoted to the mechanics of role-playing...

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

If you have a paladin in the group, it is often "we must wait until after they wake up before we murder them," but yes, point taken.

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

Also, "it was in 3e" is in many cases good evidence. Especially when the feature in question is "interacting with monsters without killing them." Why would they take that out? That is not a rhetorical question, and in many other places where something was changed or removed, we have a...

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

In the context of my above post, I don't see a big difference. I expect that a 4e supporter would have stopped, realized it didn't make sense, and checked the write-up of the power. A 4e detractor would (and did, I will hazard a guess) stop, realize it doesn't make sense, and then use it as...

No, Hong is one-of-a-kind. But he is teh funnay, so it's okay. Also, Ice Fractal is by no means the worst offender. The OP, however, is a particularly good example of just what I'm criticizing. My intention is not to make ad hominem attacks, but to point out why I tend to approve of the 4e...

    D&D 4E Our first playtest of 4E

Keep an eye out for it. Look for anyone giving their impression of play or mechanics after the date of Pramas' comment. I've seen it at least four or five times by different posters so far. CCG is the new anime/videogame.
