D&D 4E How do you feel about 4E right *now*? (week of 1/21/08)

Generally positive, with some apprehension and reservations that come largely from the wizard powers and monster manual pages from D&DXP.

    Realism! Versamilitude! Other Words!

Did I bring up the recharge mechanic? Hmm? Wait a second, I didn't! You must have responded to my post by mistake. Whoops!

HUGE SCOOP! Chris Perkins confirms my suspicions on unlimited Rituals

The precursors of the Judeo-Christian angels from the ancient Middle East were often described as being pretty darn scary. Seven faces, multiple arms, flaming swords, etc. They were supposed to be as completely alien and incomprehensible as the gods themselves. Mere mortals could die or be...

    Realism! Versamilitude! Other Words!

Or, to carry the analogy to my complaint, above: The first kid says "darn." The second kid says "darn." The authority figure punishes the second kid for swearing.

There's also: 4) "4e system X is broken/unrealistic/videogamey/not kosher/etc." On reflection, it is determined that the system is more or less the same in 3e. The "flaw wasn't fixed" argument you mention above doesn't stand, because the issue was not perceived as a problem in 3e, but it is...

HUGE SCOOP! Chris Perkins confirms my suspicions on unlimited Rituals

Very nice. I look forward to seeing how they put this together with D/E/W powers, and what sorts of effects rituals will provide.

Wizard Spells 10-16 Two Page Spread

Seriously, how often does it break the game that one character can teleport across a 10' wide chasm? IIRC, they can only pop 3 squares at a time, and have to recharge five minutes between. That means they can cross 10' gaps. Whoop-de-doo. So can a DC 15 jump check, if you get a running...

D&D 3.x 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

One of the characters in my game can do that. He hasn't figured out that he can do it yet.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

I think this is a really good point. From what I've seen, I think I'm going to be much less likely to get hung up on the minutiae in 4E, and more likely to just ignore the minutiae as I get carried along by the story and the action.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

I don't know if parody of the Storyteller Angstplaying System would have worked as well in Vampire or Wraith, where I might have had to compete for the title of "Most Emo". Of course, that was back in the day, before emo was even a word. Not long enough. The campaign kind of died for OOG reasons.

There's still lead in them. Just less lead. Also, I agree with you.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

Ha! I totally broke the emo meter in Werewolf. I played a pacifist Get of Fenris Ahroun. He was prone to going totally berzerk and then feeling like a total tool about it for days. He'd mope, he'd whine, the other werewolves would look embarrassed, and then he'd go berzerk again the next...

    Grognards?

One of the many definitions of the word (the Wikipedia entry is missing, but Answers.com has it archived), and the way it's usually used around here, is to describe someone who believes that an older edition of the game is superior to the current edition. That means that anyone who won't switch...

D&D 3.x 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

I've got a thirty year old bottle of scotch I'm digging out to make a toast to EGG with my players this weekend. My players are great. They love to have arguments with each other in character, and usually hilarity ensues.

Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

When I saw that they put up the cover of the edition I learned the game on, I broke up all over again.

D&D 3.x 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

I keep seeing this, and repeating it for parody effect. You're not doing it right unless you're ruining someone's fun--your own or someone else's.

Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

I'm surprised at how moved I am by this news. Throughout most of my life, E. Gary Gygax has been a personal hero of mine. He found a way to make a fun, nerdy hobby into a successful career, and his work has had more of an influence on the way I spend my time than anyone else's. I just want to...

D&D 3.x 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

Man, fun sucks. It's not a real roleplaying game unless it makes you want to kill yourself. Also, grammar sucks too!

D&D 4E Kill 200 Kobolds! (Or running 4E with just DDXP info)

That's what I was thinking. It makes it faster to read.
