    Healing

Yes, they deliberately designed the game to kill players off as fast as possible. Happy? I swear, can you people please ease up on the deliberate interpretation of every aspect of 4e in the most negative and pessimistic light possible? It's really starting to get tiresome, and I was already...

    Healing

3e doesn't have a mechanic for grievous injuries. All HP damage can be quickly healed by a cleric, or just slept off in a few days of rest. You mention Con damage, but that was mostly limited to poison and magical effects. There is no way to inflict Con damage by hacking at someone with a...

    Healing

Yes. The rogue gets 6 + Con healing surges per day, which heal 1/4 his HP. The amount of healing was not specified in the Ampersand article, and some people erroneously assumed that the article indicated amount healed rather than number of heals.

    Healing

Lay on Hands lets you steal one of the Paladin's healing surges. Why, besides wilful pessimism, would you come to that conclusion?

    Healing

DM: Okay, the cave troll pokes with the spear, and *roll roll* gets a critical hit. You take 24 damage. Frodo's player: Ouch! I'm down below 0. DM: Okay, start making your stabilization checks. ...a round or two later... Frodo's player: Three times a charm... *roll roll* Sweet! I got a 20...

    Healing

I don't see this as a problem. If you have a healer, your party has an easier time healing. It's a feature, not a bug.

[Exploits] Ranger Daily: Split the Tree

Exactly the same way I explain Greater Manyshot. It's a Legolas-style trick where the archer puts his fingertip between the two arrows, which fire off in different directions, striking different targets. I don't see what's so hard about that, when you compare it to, say, falling damage. I...

The DM has to buy online tiles to run a DDI game?!?

You know, that's one thing that I just don't get about dungeon tiles. DM: Okay, you guys clear the forest and look down over a slope. And below you in the fading twilight you make out... Player 1: Let me guess. A giant skeleton. DM: How did you know? Player 2: Because you've used that damn...

FR to look like a Roger Dean painting

Considering I'd rather make a flute from my fingerbones than listen to Yes for longer than it takes to switch off the classic rock station, I'd hate to hear what less "influential" bands sound like.

    Healing

Because you don't get the extra 1d6+4 HP. Also, I get the feeling that the Heal skill lets you trigger healing surges only in unconscious characters, to wake them back up, essentially as though they had rolled to stabilize. If you don't use the surge, the 1d6+4 isn't additional.

    D&D 4E Review of 4E from a Playtester

Depends. Perhaps the text following is "you explode, and your bone fragments cut through everyone within 5 squares. +20 vs. Ref for 20d6 damage. Miss: half damage."

Sooo, that's my players certain not to be subscribing to DDI...

Yeah, me too. I don't expect to shell out for this simply because I don't look forward to playing games online. I just can't imagine I'd like the experience. I am upset that I won't be able to use the 4e equivalent of d20srd.org without paying $10/month for the privilege, but I guess they're...

    OK, I'm in ...

Man, I'm going to be trapped on an uninhabited island off the coast of B.C. when the books are released. My house is 4158 km from the island. I won't have a reliable mailing address there, but I'll be damned if I'm going to wait until August, when I get home, to look at 4e. I'm going to have...

Well, except threaten the friend with lethal bodily harm. That might interfere with their friendship, although it would solve the ally/enemy dichotomy. Given that the fighter's mark seems to amount to "if you do anything other than engage with me in combat, I'll take the opportunity to stab...
