Not happy with Wizard's lack of fluff.

"Sexed Up Tieflings" would be a good band name. Albeit a terribly nerdy one.

A question for DMs more experienced than myself - aka everyone

That alone makes you qualified, in my opinion. Certainly more qualified than I was the first time I ran a session. My first time playing 4e was as DM... I imagine that's the experience for a lot of DMs out there. There's no magical prequesite number of sessions played. Experience helps, though...

Best Feats for a Storm Sorcerer?

I'm playing a halfling storm sorcerer in a new campaign. I'm used to playing stuff like Shaman, Swordmages, or various leader roles... lots of fiddly bits with careful positioning and conditional bonuses and penalties. For once, I thought it'd be fun to just play a straight-up blaster. I'm...

Warped cousins of Gnomes, twisted by Fomorian magic?

I noticed that too, about the many, many "warped gnomes" that fomorians created. But that's when I realized that fomorians are supposed to be the feywild reflection of titans in the world. They command vast armies of cyclops (who are themselves reflections of the giants). The "warped gnomes"...

    Dracolich

Dracolich is my pick for the single worst-designed monster in 4e. My recommendation would honestly be to rebuild it from scratch using the guidelines in DMG2, and if you want to get really fancy, maybe double its static damage like they did for most monsters in MM3. Give it a big scary recharge...

D&D 4E 4E spell turning, counterspell, or similar

Personally, if a player wanted to do this, I'd make it an in-combat skill challenge to effectively stun an enemy caster. Your item could simply add a big bonus to Arcana checks to counterspell or neutralize an enemy caster.

    Best Healer?

But if all you're looking for is handing out healings surges, HP, and temp HP, then yeah, Cleric is still top dog in that particular arena, even with the nerf to Healer's Lore.

    D&D 4E DM'ing 4E - Stuff "Everybody Knows"

A lone trap does not an encounter make (DMG 2 "solo trap" rules notwithstanding).

    devils in the details

Here are some ideas. Feel free to poach. -Bael Turath. It's just sitting there, a glittering gem of devilish fluff in 4e's basic Points of Light setting. A campaign focused on devils should definitely end up in the ruins of Bael Turath at some point. Maybe the tieflings started the whole...

    What's Your (Favourite) Role?

Oh, tough question. I'm tempted to say Defender, but that's really only because of the Swordmage, my favorite class. To be honest, the other Defender classes don't interest me. So I guess that isn't it. I think Leader is probably my favorite. I really enjoy buffing other players and letting...

    Oots 0723 - Generally Relative

First one in a long while to get a genuine belly-laugh out of me. Good stuff.

    Grind

This sums up my experience quite nicely.

House Rule Idea: Free "Background" Feat

You have a good point, Lost Soul, but my reasoning for this is two-fold. First, I want to give players license to prop up their background a bit with mechanical benefits. Second, I just plain want to give players a new feat. More options means more fun. The first part of my reasoning might be a...

House Rule Idea: Free "Background" Feat

I never quite liked backgrounds, so I thought for a campaign I'm planning to run this summer I would instead let players select one free feat at level 1. The idea is to give them something to flesh out their character. I could give them a free feat, no restrictions, but then I'm afraid that...

Starblade Furry: Best Monk feat ever?

Starblade Furry... would that be a Shifter with a Sunblade?

Would this solve the "grind" issue?

I'm amazed at how many people have their heads in the sand in this thread. Grind is not in the mind. It's a real issue. Specifically, it's one possible outcome from any given encounter. The way I see it, there's only a handful of possible outcomes for any given combat encounter. 1) The PCs...

    Deck of Many Things

I'm fairly impressed. Every time I think 4e will wuss out on something really tough, something save-or-diey, they always surprise me by being pretty harsh. The rust monster still destroys magic weapons and armor... it then supplies the party with the weapon's exact value after they kill it...

    Necromancers...Who else wants them?

Yeah, I've always wanted a necromancer class, too. I always enjoyed necromancers, and the struggle or challenge of playing a Lawful Good necromancer always appealed to me. I think basing it off the Shaman, but leaning more toward the Controller role, could be interesting. As for what the...

Why Did They Get Rid of the Law & Chaos Alignment?

Dear Wizards of the Coast, We're writing you today to express our concern over your continued bigotry and close-mindedness regarding alignment. Year after year, edition after edition, players are encouraged to be not only Good, but Lawful. Your fine corporation seems to believe that just...

Why Did They Get Rid of the Law & Chaos Alignment?

I have to admit, this is something that turned me off about 4e initially. I've pretty much gotten over it, but dang, I miss my Chaotic Good. I agree with the design philosophy of removing alignment from the mechanics of the gameworld. That was a great decision. But why can't it remain as part...
