    How often do you play?

I play almost entirely online. Sometimes I do one-shots for curious friends, and whenever I find myself in my hometown, my friends make a point of calling me up and asking me to DM a game. But all my playing is done online, mostly through Maptools. These questions are always hard for me to...

    Branching Out from Fantasy

I'm tired of fantasy, and by extension, Dungeons and Dragons. Well, "tired" is probably too harsh a word... I still love D&D, and I'm excited every chance I get to play it. But I'm finally reaching that point where I realize, hey, other games are out there. They might be cool too. Whenever I...

Look upon my works, ye mighty... (my players stay out, please)

If your emperor has access to wizards, I'd be tempted to use them. It doesn't matter whether you want a low-magic or high-magic campaign. In a high-magic game, his magical monuments will seem perfectly in-place. In a low-magic game, they'll be all the more impressive, and give a good sense of...

What D&Disms have you never liked?

My big one is weirdly specific, but... drow. Drow have: 1. Uncomfortable racial overtones (the evil, cursed race with dark skin). 2. What feels like a pandemic of fanservice with its dominatrix-inspired culture. 3. Drizzt clone syndrome, where every PC tries to do the tragically misunderstood...

    weapon focus daggers and sorcerers

As long as we're on the subject of daggers as implements, here's one I've wondered for a while. Say you take Sorcerous Blade Channeling, and either Dragonfrost or Acid Orb as your At-Will. Can you use Dragonfrost or Acid Orb as an opportunity attack? Or at the end of a charge?

Vote for your favorite Paragon Path - Part 9: Swordmage

Wow, surprised the Wandering Swordmage is doing as well as he is. It's my favorite PP of my favorite class, but I like it more for fluff reasons than mechanical reasons. Mechanically, I think it's kind of a stinker. As people have already said, you have to plan from level 1 if you want to play...

    Positive and Negative Energy

I've always been in favor of them being neutral forces. I don't like the idea that a necromancer-type character or anyone who utilizes negative energy is always, always, forever and ever evil. Then again, I tend to shy away from black-and-white morality in any and all games I play. I mean...

    Where Do You Game?

Online. Don't have the time/money required to travel to an actual physical place out in meatspace.

    Artificer playtest any good?

That might be because you resurrected a thread that was well over a year old, talking about a playtest class that has long since been replaced.

Skill Challenges - good/creative ideas and uses?

One idea for an epic-level skill challenge I've always wanted to try out is this: the PCs activate a trap that sends them into a pocket dimension populated by a single glabrezu. The glabrezu was imprisoned here for displeasing one demon prince or another. He can control the entire pocket...

    Warlock basics

Yeah, I would've been much happier if this happened some where, anywhere, but Dragon. Why not a book? Errata? I just have a tendecy to avoid Dragon stuff, since I'm not sure about the balance and I know not all DMs allow it. Also, it just makes it easier to create a character without DDI stuff...

Gamma World - Get Some Details Here

I'm ashamed to say I've never heard of Gamma World before, but this sounds like tons of fun! The post-apocalyptic feel combined with the humor reminds me of the Fallout series, which I love. But the idea of a gameworld in which is okay, even intended to be humorous, makes me think of Paranoia...

    Stun is Fun

That's a fair point, actually. The Dracolich is just a straight-up terrible creature, as are any that make frequent use of stun. That doesn't mean that stun is bad, though. It just means that WotC used stun incorrectly. A skilled DM can still use stun correctly, and make it fun.

    Stun is Fun

Well, obviously, in those situations your DM gave you way too much stun. If you were playing a barbarian and the DM stuck you in an immobilizing zone for the entire fight, you'd be crying fowl, too. Or if he let something truly terrible in, like a "target is dominated until the end of the...

    Stun is Fun

Stun is fun, but should be used sparingly. Like weed. If you use stun all the time, odds are you're just going to spend your whole life sitting around doing nothing and feeling frustrated. Once again, like weed. However, stun is "the king of conditions" as somebody else said earlier. Weakening...

Creative way to bring back dead PC?

A minor dungeon crawl that leads to a forgotten altar 'charged' with enough divine energy to bring the guy back. Adds a wrinkle to the revolving door afterlife, gives you an excuse for a fun little side-treck, and has that nice, solemn moment of expectation when you lay the fallen hero on the...

    What Classes are Missing?

I want a really heavy-duty Summoning class. A Minion-spawner. The guy who doesn't just summon the occassional beefed-up super-monster to help him win the day... we already have that with the Beastmaster Ranger, the Shaman, and the new Summoning powers for wizards. No, I want to see a guy that...
