D&D General Kitchen sink setting or narrow genre focus for long-running campaigns (2,5,10+ years)

I prefer games that stick around to the 12-18 month range (around 20 sessions). I find even games that are in "kitchen sink" settings tend to narrow down to a tighter frame over a more limited time frame.

D&D General Laser Llama's Alternate Druid class

Everything that is not freely available on the Patreon doesn’t have attached artwork, last time I checked. The Patreon features are advance previews that are art-free, some specific art-free subclasses, and access to Patreon-only channels in the Discord.

D&D General Laser Llama's Alternate Druid class

Laserllama is my favorite 5e homebrewer, but Kibbles is a close #2. I just got their 2nd Kickstarter a few weeks ago, and it's also incredibly solid.

If he has, I haven't seen it.

D&D General Laser Llama's Alternate Druid class

I've said it before, but if Laserllama put out a Kickstarter collecting his alternate classes into one book, it would replace the PHB in my games.

D&D General Laser Llama's Alternate Druid class

Laserllama's Shaman hits a lot of these points, it's a Wisdom-based pact magic class with nature/spirit magic without a Wildshape ability (although some subclasses have similar abilities).

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Exactly. Which is why I’ve made the point for years that unless you’re playing with a group where ALL the participants are knowledgeable and excited about the bespoke setting (or willing to quickly learn), then you’re better off running in a more flexible, generic setting.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

No idea. Could take a poll, I guess. I haven't really had to deal with that in a long time. If it seems like multiple players aren't onboard with the premise, then I drop the premise.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

I'm against the DM dictating the role ahead of time, by pre-building a bunch of specific roles that a player can slot into. That, to me, should be the job of the player, even if that means the player is doing some loose "setting authorship". As an example, if you want to come up with five...

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Yes, I am 100% against DMs making players have a role to play. That is, generally, something I don't enjoy. (There are always exceptions for special games with unique play parameters.) The DM is already the director and cinematographer; I don't want them to be the screenwriter and casting...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

You can do scaling martial damage without the need to give them "martial cantrips". (Although I think martial cantrips/at-wills are great!) I mean, just look at rogues and sneak attack. I'm pretty sure Mike Mearls said in some 5e post-mortems that Extra Attack was added because having...

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Agree with this. I'm not against games where the setting is defined first, and than the mechanical options for player characters are all derived from the setting conceits. I'm just against that approach for D&D. And I'm really against the GMs who generate a bunch of detailed setting info...

Time travel doesn't exist because time travel wiped out the timelines where it did

I mean, I always thought that was kind of glaringly obvious. If it is possible to travel back to the past, then every version of the timeline that could have played out, did play out, until we reached the timeline where it never happened or could happen.

D&D General What weird CR8 (or greater monster) did the evil water elemental cultists set loose in the flooded lower levels of a desecrated temple?

Fiendish shambling mounds that reproduce by inhaled spores causing mycomorphosis (like illithid ceremorphosis). :)

D&D General What weird CR8 (or greater monster) did the evil water elemental cultists set loose in the flooded lower levels of a desecrated temple?

Hmm. Desecration of an agricultural deity by flooding and water conjures images of stagnant fields full of mud and rotting vegetation. I'm thinking some kind of spawning nest of shambling mounds templated with an earth or mud element. Focus on engulfing and slow rot, bludgeoning and poison...

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Sure, and also all things I wouldn't impose on a character unless the player expressed interest in exploring them.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I'm not going to say that ignoring a wide range of posters has made my internet forums experience much better. That's the whole post; I'm just not going to say it.
