D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Well, then, I guess I'll also need to repeatedly post that I disagree with you. Bummer.

Because that would be you posting to repeatedly tell me you disagree with me, which we have agreed not to do.

Sure, just as long as you're aware I'm going to continue the word correctly in subsequent posts and you'll just have to grin and bear it. :)

We'll agree to disagree. I'm magnanimous like that.

Yep. Like I said in an earlier post, there's nothing wrong with a railroad if the players simply want to relax and enjoy the ride.

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

Does anyone have contact info for the RPG police? Because I have some reports.

When you play in person, where do you play? (Poll)

Two of my main groups both play at one of my friend's house. He and his wife have no children, so he's spent a good amount of money setting up his basement with a gaming table, lots of minis, a small bar, etc. We have rotating GMs, so whoever is DMing just uses his minis if they're needed. We...

    D&D 5E (2014) Running the shortest game?

5 room dungeon. 2 fights, 2 puzzles in the first 4 rooms. Each room gives a consumable treasure or two. Two of the 4 rooms have the two pieces of the Macguffin that opens up the fifth room with the boss.

I mean, if you're obvious in your deception, are you actually being deceptive? :) But I think these 2 cases are pretty much the same thing. 1) We start at Place A, and we have paths 1, 2, 3, and 4 out of place A. 1, 2, and 3 turn out to be dead ends, and the PCs have to take path 4 to get to...

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

Which is why I generally favor not worrying about it and just let people play what they want. If Carl Casual wants to play a dragonborn because scales are cool and a breath weapon sounds fire, let him. If Diana Deep-Dive wants to play a tiefling because they want to explore a personal story...

Yea, I think that's a tricky path to navigate. I can see a DM trying to do heavy sim play, with most of the setting action (and thus what the PCs encounter) being driven by algorithm (encounter tables). But eventually the actions of the PCs are going to need to be accounted for by simulated...

I think it depends. If the players accidently take some action that gets them off the path, and the GM steers them back onto the path through some kind of scene, then I don't view that as negative railroading behavior, although the overall game structure is still an accepted railroad. If the...

I mean, every adventure path is essentially a railroad. It’s one of those touristy railroads, of course, where they offer you drinks and snacks and a really nice view out of the windows. But you get on the ride knowing exactly where you’re going to end up. Railroads aren’t always bad, even if...

The players are expected to have a greater role and responsibility in helping create the fiction and push it forward, yes. If they didn’t want to do that, we wouldn’t play that game! That’s the nice thing about changing games every few months; you can try a whole lot of different variations...

Characters don't think. Players think about what their characters would think.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

What nations and/or city states would make sense for the other gem dragon orders? Right now, I'm thinking: Sembia = Emerald The Dalelands = Crystal Westgate = Topaz Turmish = Sapphire
