Banning a Player from my Group. Am I Justified?

As someone who is currently going through a somewhat similar situation, I can sympathize. Unfortunately, he is my friend, so I didn't have the stones to boot him. As a result, I'm about to lose one good player, and probably another within a short time due to his continual and repetitive...

    My simple prediction about Gleemax

Meh, I was at the Gleemax boards once or twice (once recently) and wasn't particularly impressed. I may check in now and then to see if anything worthwhile pops up, but I don't have much confidence in that right now. Besides, I'm pretty close to rounding out my 3.5 collection anyway. there's...

Which is more important - smooth/fun game play or realism?

Fun is a definite primary concern for me, but I try to maintain a degree of plausability and order in my game world, or at least have a very good reason for a sudden "out of place" change. If robots suddenly showed up in my fanatsy medievalesque-world, I'd want a good reason why. If a jet...

Why do levels one and two suck so bad?

As a DM, I don't even like levels 1 and 2 for many of the reasons listed. Just doesn't seem very fun. That's why I'm starting my characters for my next campaign out at 3rd level, but with 0xp. (With the normal xp requirement required to reach fourth. That way they can spend plenty of time...

What options have you regreted allowing in your game?

Oh, I have quite a few of those. I'll say, at least, that I've learned from my errors. . . Hmmmmmm . . . I allowed Combat Rites from Diamondthrone.com into my AE game. The Ritual Warrior ended up becoming a "I have rite to bypass everything" monkey. It had the same effect as adding spells...

    Houseruling Raise Dead spells

I'm not a big fan of raise dead spells either, largely because of the campaign implications it often has, and as others have mentioned I think it cheapens death. I just finished running an Arcana Evolved campaign where Raise magic was pretty rare anyway, but the characters could spend a Hero...

Ending the game at Name level?

From what I remember of my 1ed days, we made to about 12th or 13th level in one of our last campaigns, before putting the characters into semi-retirement. After about two years of playing the same characters twice a week on average, most of us were ready for something new.

    In praise of Metagaming...

Yes, I agree, jerkism must be purged from the (meta)game.

Here comes a TPK by assassination (SCAP spoiler)

Or, drop down the levels of the assassins and use the whole "kill them in their sleep" method. By effectively hitting them when their out, you're upping the CR anyway. Maybe even take away their assassin levels so you don't have to worry about the death attack thing. Sneak attack damage should...

How many different groups are you gaming with?

I run two and play in one. Two each week, and one every other sunday And I am a gaming slut, so yeah, just pass the Mountain Dew already and move on to the next post. . . .

    Parents Neglect - D&D named.....

Well put. . . and for example, it is very common for gambling addicts, for instance, to switch to drinking or drugging if they can't get their gambling fix. I've also worked with several individuals, who being admitted drug addicts or alcoholics and eventually recovering from their habit...

    Passing notes at the table

You were far too soft on him. You should have set fire to the family first. :] j/k :p But sure, I have no problem with players handing me notes, as long as it doesn't get ridiculous or overly distracting.

Kicking out a player: share your stories/advice

Yeah, I agree with TB here. Some players are so horrible that honesty or an explanation is a waste of time, and they'll just argue with you anyway to prove how "wrong" you are about them. Some just aren't working out, but are basically good people. Those are the ones I have the talk with...

    You're a gamer???

I definitely get shocked looks when I say I'm a gamer. *shrug* I guess I look more like an ex quarterback, or club bouncer, than a DM . . . who knew?

The role of the DM in the game and the group.

I voted for relatively equal power in the social (non-direct game aspects), subject to host fiat . . . 'cause, frankly, you're in their house. As long as their not being complete numbskulls, it all works out fine. As a DM and player, the DM gets the final say on aspects of the game. Its a lot...

Any advice for running and Iron Heroes Campaign

Nice stuff, folks. Thanks and keep it coming. I am planning on doing an arena style intro just to get the players into the sytem, and then start adding in various IH elements as they become comfortable with it. Kind of a layered learning. Question: Is combat generally faster than in 3.5...

Any advice for running and Iron Heroes Campaign

Pretty much just that. My former campaign is coming to a close in the next month or so and its possible that I might be running Iron Heroes. My players seem somewhat intrigued, and I'm really digging the concept, but I'd like to hear any experiences (good or bad) anyone else may have had...
