    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Dubrovnik

It may not be obvious as I didn't credit the pictures, but the photos are all from me actually visiting these places, so unfortunately because I don't have an unlimited budget, I didn't get to visit nearly as many places as I'd like. Kotor, Corfu, and Zakynthos are my remaining destinations (and...

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a great template for a walled fantasy city already, thanks to its prominence in Game of Thrones. Meet Dubrovnik Dubrovnik is a city in southern Dalmatia, Croatia, by the Adriatic Sea. Between the 14th and 19th centuries, Dubrovnik ruled itself as a free state. Dubrovnik was allied...

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #79

The saints article was tremendously influential on my campaign. It's also quite curious (and probably due to religious concerns) that the concept doesn't appear more often. Gygax used saints (notably St. Cuthbert) but D&D skews much more toward "deity has an avatar" vs. "humanoid elevated to...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Cosmere, UVG, Scoundrels of Brixton, and more

Fair. Still, Avatar is a multimedia franchise, so in some ways I can appreciate how it reached over nine million dollars. But nine million from Sanderon's books alone? That seems like quite the achievement (and, as we see in other discussions, is surprising folks who haven't read the books).

I ... can't see a single thing on that screen. Sounds cool though.

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Venice

Thank you! I'm going to do one on every city we visited (also, this is the equivalent of forcing your relatives to see all the photos you took on vacation -- thank you EN World family for tolerating me).

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Venice

I love this. And it's probably how a campaign set in a canal city would go. I do think it's important to make the canals matter, so to speak. Transport, falling in, gondoliers, monsters in the canals, etc.

Worlds of Design: What Did You Expect?

For better or worse, I think for players brand-new to role-playing, the only way to truly understand if they're a good fit for the game is to play it. So then it becomes a question of optimizing the time/effort put into these early/experimental games until everyone is comfortable and sure they...

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Venice

Venice is a fascinating city that has plenty of inspiration for fantasy campaigns. Meet Venice Before I visited Venice, I thought I understood the city well. But seeing it in person is a whole other level, and it's clear there's way more to Venice than what I read in history books. Venice is...

Sorry about that, I updated the title to reflect accurately.

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Bari

Bari's interesting because there's so many medieval tropes colliding with maritime tropes. Which is why I love the idea of a Maltese Knights concept of paladin sailors.
