    Warlock's Curse / Hunter's Quarry

Count me in. The more I play, the more I care about having fun, not forcing my view of what is realistic in a fantasy world onto players.

    Most likely fashionably late.

    The Unstoppable Black Dragon

To my understanding only one mark can exist on any given character. The Paladin and the fighter either have to fight over who gets the mark or give up their mark for the other to have. And the quarry and curse basically are your "preferred target." Basically when you hit a target with your...

    Aristotle's D&D Experience

I see it more as your target of choice. It doesn't force you to make a new minor action to select a new quarry when something is close. It is a little weird, but requiring the target to be the closest prevents you from sniping controllers in back from the beginning of combat with the bonus...

    Saving Throws?

Well I suppose, assuming since you're using defenses (attacker determines success or failure as opposed to defender) that you could use any of the following: No abilities that last more than one round. Abilities that have to be tracked a certain amount of rounds. Have the player who made the...

    Aristotle's D&D Experience

Yep. It's also interesting, that you can close on that enemy, get the quarry, and then get farther away and keep the quarry. I like that sort of mechanic. It certainly keeps the ranger moving around rather than just standing in back.

    Fighter Cleave vs Minions?

I agree. From all the words in my vast vocabulary, it's the best word I know that explains my vision of what martial powers are. I think it'll take time to sink in for people to learn the lesser used noun definition of the word exploit much like many other games introduce other terminology...

D&D eXPerience: Core Mechanics (now compiled in 1st post!)

Move like anyone else? What does that mean? Does that mean they are not hindered by heavier armor? Also, can you say anything about basic attacks? I'm sure they've been used before, especially due to charges.

D&D eXPerience: Core Mechanics (now compiled in 1st post!)

Whoa, whoa. Hold on there a moment. So you're assuming that monsters and players use the same mechanics? They've already said that this isn't necessarily the case. Just because it has that number there doesn't mean that it's the ability score modifier. It's a modifier of some kind but not...

    D&D eXPerience: My Experience

Actually, I understand that the breath weapon imposes multiple effects and one save ends all effects of that ability. It's actually written into most abilities that say "(save ends both)." So is that one saving throw per source of giving you a saving throw, or one saving throw per entity...

[Exploits] Ranger Daily: Split the Tree

I actually ignored the flavor text when I read the abilities and they seemed quite mundane, yet skillful... much like skillful exploits, hence the naming of martial powers. When I saw split the tree, and ignored the flavor text, I saw it as shooting two arrows at once, or two arrows in rapid...

    D&D eXPerience: My Experience

So is that one saving throw per condition or one saving throw to end all conditions?

D&D 4E Vote for your favorite 4E PHB cover!

While the Dragon may be the biggest part of the third cover, it certainly isn't the focus. The battle is the focus. Right in the very center is a fighter in the middle of swinging his sword against the dragon who seems to be hissing like a snake at the adventurers, while the rest of the...

D&D 4E Vote for your favorite 4E PHB cover!

You can't dungeon from the players handbook, but you can play a halfling. Just because it appears on the cover doesn't mean it can be run. I think it's entirely too nitpicky. The iconic picture of a group of adventurers in a dungeon fighting a dragon is a great concept for the cover of the...

26th level rogue vs. Smiley McFirePants

As long as we're speculating: Not including any other bonuses he might have gotten from his class through the levels, if there are some. Fortitude seems to be the Pit Fiends strength, while the rogue's strength is to attack the Dex. Being as he's using a heroic tier ability as opposed to an...

WotC has a milking machine now (Draconomicon I)

Along with the content. The 3.5 Draconomicon was 288 pages, and the 4e Draconomicon I: Chromatic Dragons will have 288 pages. While I don't understand the higher sticker price than other splat books (and even larger than the Phb at 320 pages, it does look like they are giving way more content...

PHB classes -- why does it matter which ones are included?

I actually was asking about those who actually like the game: It's obviously a poor investment for anyone who doesn't play it much, or doesn't care to play it much. I play it once a week though. How is asking a question a pet peeve? I didn't start claiming that it wasn't a high investment...

Are stat modifiers really bonus + 1/2 per level?

I think all attacks are going to have the following rules: You roll a d20 You add your BAB (or half your char level, since they are all standardized now) You add an ability modifier You add any other bonuses, such as the rogue's weapon talent or enhancement bonuses Then you compare it to An...

    Rogues get 5/level

    Given: 3e rogue d6 4e rogue per level +5 Reverse engineered to: ([3e die] + [1 size])/2 Rounded up = [4e die] d4 = 4 d6 = 5 d8 = 6 d10 = 7 d12 = [8] (If there were a d14) Just an off the wall guess. Could be right, and could be completely wrong. I'm leaning towards the completely wrong. ;)
