Which team will win Super Bowl XLV?

I will give a slight edge to Green Bay, simply they are more of the underdog. I don't often watch sports, but I do enjoy a good close game. I have noticed the SB commercials have been more lame the last few years....

    True Grit (movie review)

I didn't see a True Grit thread, so I'm creating one. I saw this today at a matinee, enjoying my Federal Holiday (MLKJR FTW). It was very good. I normally don't watch Westerns and I certainly don't read them. The scenery and back drop of the movie was great. Casting and acting was superb, as...

    Edition Fatigue

Similar to this: Core rules: Dungeons & Dragons (basically a board game with dice and cardboard minis; I own this one) Secondary: D&D Rules Cyclopedia Tertiary: Advanced Dungeons & Dragons ? I think Wizards has the right idea with the Red Box. They even called the Red Box a starter set, not a...

Vista on old HD. Blank new HD. Upgrade download for Win7. Will it work?

Generally I am not a fan of OS upgrades. It is better to install Windows 7 cleanly. You will have to reinstall all your programs, but Windows 7 should be able to transfer your settings. Older Windows versions request the media when you do that, however. That means Vista OEM discs probably...

    Disable F8 on startup?

I'm not a parent, but.... It's tough to be the middle-man (or middle-woman). I don't know any practical way to remove safe-mode. It sounds like there are bigger issues here at play. If I were the parent, I'd move the PC into the common room of the house. That would be the only PC with...

Stores too cheap to turn the lights on

The big box stores, like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and some grocery stores chains, are famous for this. It's done simply for energy savings (money savings). For security, I am pretty sure they alternate which lights are dimmed. I dislike it, too, but money talks. New York Times article discussing...

    Domain names info

When you say bulk how many domain names are we talking about? Godaddy is an okay choice if you are just buying a few domains. I am pretty sure they discount common alternative spellings when purchased along with the main domain name.

Aaaaaaaaaah Gazebo, kill it! Kill it! (Awesome tree, by the way. )

[Star Wars] Somebody bought the license

I keep hearing this. You really think an RPG/board game sells better than RPG books? I really liked Warhammer 2e, but I am not about to buy a $100 Warhammer 3e set. I am one of those gamers that reads RPGs far more than actually playing. Granted I am not the target market for this. Maybe Games...

[Star Wars] Somebody bought the license

If it was FFG that got the Star Wars license, would it be smart for them for do another board/RPG combo like Warhammer 3e?

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 - Coming in 2011

If PotC 4 goes back to the roots of the first Pirates of the Carribean movie, focus on piratey goodness, I will watch it. Otherwise skip-city. It's funny watching this thread over 2 years time. I still stand that PotC 4 should have been a prequel; perhaps an origin story of Captain Jack.

WB to reboot Buffy the Vampire Slayer without Joss Whedon

Huh. Wouldn't that be kinda weird for the original creator not being able to legally use his previous work? I mean it's a reboot, but still.

    Cell Phones and missed opportunities

If I were to get a Smart Phone, I'd probably be an Android. I've been super impressed of the ones I've seen people get. Maybe Smart Phones will completely replace desktop PCs, but that's a way's off, for sure. I was doing that, too, until I realized it's cheaper for me to pay for the $100 1...

On my way to St Hives I met a man with seven Hives...

What, no technology after the war? "No beer and no TV make ssampier something something" Dude, don't make me go all telethon on you. "Wouldn't you like to help a guy like megamania? For just pennies a day, megamania could have clean picture-in-picture and (fast) running Internet. Help the...

On my way to St Hives I met a man with seven Hives...

megamania, you poor, poor guy; still on dialup! I wish I could give you part of 12 Mb Internet I don't use all of. I'm sure a megabit or 2 would help. We should take megamania photo and start a campaign, "Megabits for megamania." And I thought I was the only one who had a small sized TV...

    Cell Phones and missed opportunities

I honestly think the data plan is where the cell phone providers make their money. Since they make so much money off it, they want you permanently attached to that gravy train. Smart Phones are super neat, but I'm not ready to pay for a data plan I would rarely use. I am such a Luddite I only...

    Router issues

Some routers just have buggy code. You would think a router firmware is relatively simple, but no. I know our network engineers back in 2005'ish did some packet captures and found certain versions of Linksys routers wouldn't properly do an arp request. I have been really happy with my Zyxel...

    DVD drive tray keeps ejecting

More than likely the drive motor is bad. It's so cheap to get a replacement drive, it's not worth the fuss. You can spend ~$40 and about 5-10 minutes of your time. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself you can pay a professional about $50 to do it. As always, your mileage may vary.

    November: What are you reading?

Started re-reading Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I would actually read the other books again, since I've read this one so many times, but they are 600 miles away in my home state. I looked through my Amazon wish-list and purchased a few things that have been sitting there for years. I...
