Games that you haven't run but want to [+]

The story of the game already uses this historical event for its climactic ending. So yes, I will definitely be doing the same. It is easy to tie it into supernatural events.

Well, the story takes place in 1834, which is a long time before Jack the Ripper. So it's the Victorian age, but before some of the later technical revolutions. As far as I was able to gather, and correct me if I'm wrong, but most of London in 1834 had gaslighting, or no lighting at all. There...

Games that you haven't run but want to [+]

I'm working on a 5e Nightmare Creatures campaign, based on the classic Playstation 1 game and set in Victorian London. But as is usually the case when I prepare a campaign, I get completely lost in my research and world building. I've already got a period accurate map of London, which I'm still...

    Star Wars Rewatch

I recently saw The Empire Strikes Back live in concert. It was the first time I've ever seen it on the big screen, and it was amazing. Plus the fantastic score hits so much harder when you've got a live orchestra playing it right in front of you. Also, me and my gf were surrounded by...

    Star Wars Rewatch

I've always hated the fight between the emperor and Yoda. If you compare that Yoda with Yoda in Empire Strikes Back, they are two completely different characters. One is fan service, the other is a wise peaceful character, who would never draw (or own) a lightsaber.

    Star Wars Rewatch

I remember Revenge of the Sith being decent. It has a few cringe moments, but a stellar opening that feels more Star Wars than The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones combined. Is it a good movie though? No, not really. But it is entertaining.

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

Another way to look at it: If you dictate to your friends what media they should consume, and break friendships if they read, listen, watch or play something you don't like... are you really a friend? I believe a Potter fan that wants to run a Hogwarts campaign, should be able to do so. And I...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I'm a big fan of Guild Wars 2, because in part it has very diverse representation. I do not know if they have trans writers, but they are definitely doing something right. They just write a compelling story that happens to include LGBTQ characters, without hitting you over the head with it. So...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I'm not saying you should never add a trans character to your game. But most games that try, fail at the execution. For example, Hogwarts Legacy also has a lesbian character; an npc who goes out of her way to mention her wife in her quest dialogue. It sometimes feels terribly obvious when a...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I would have not inserted the trans character at all. The game's character creator already supports trans options. That's good enough, and better than most games.

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I hadn't even heard the controvercy about the name, but now that I've heard it, that indeed seems far fetched. I just noticed it was jarring the way they inserted the character into the plot. Like, all of a sudden there's a female bar patron with a heavy male voice, asking us if we want our...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

And this is the case with any public figure. Any franchise you love, be it Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, or book series, or movie trilogy. Any day news could break about an author, actor, singer, film maker, writer, that suddenly reveals them as being a horrible person. Next thing you know...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

The game lets you create a look for your character, and you are free to pick a male or a female voice, and if you want to be called witch or wizard. The character creator also offers a wide array of black hair types, which is something that doesn't get brought up at all. This is a detail often...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I don't know. Maybe you should talk with them? I disagree with Rowling. I think, she lives in a rich little out-of-touch bubble, surrounding herself with people who say they agree with her. In such a bubble, it is easy to believe you are right, and that most people agree with you. And it is...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

Do I really? You can't imagine that there are people who are uncomfortable with trans people, yet do not wish them dead? Pretending it is trans people and their allies versus trans haters and their supporters is flat out wrong. The discussion is way more complicated than that. And I think you...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

There are also people who are conflicted. Who are both trans supporters and Potter fans. There are those who are indifferent. Neither ally nor enemy. There are those who dislike trans people, but do not want them dead. For example. But I think you could have answered this question yourself.

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

I don't think painting the issue so black and white is constructive to discussion, nor accurate. Not at all.

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

Or it doesn't, and just remains as it is. Which is the case for most videogame companies. This false stereotype of the game industry being universally awful is not helpful. Yes, there are a few bad actors. But there are also decent companies. Quite a lot of them in fact. What this all boils...

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

Not all game companies are soul crushing. There are quite a lot that are a dream job to work at, where employees are treated well and paid well.

Where do we stand on Harry Potter?

But lots of big videogames are made by huge teams, who are not deserving of your ire, and they would very much like for the game they worked on for several years, to be a success. Not because they get any of the profit, but because it is a product made with passion, love and a lot of hard work...
