    No More Reptiles with Boobs!

Narn are actually marsupials, IIRC, despite the pseudo-reptilian appearance. They were also played by human actors on a 1990s TV budget, which puts certain restrictions on their biology.

So what races and classes do we consider core?

Hmm, interesting thread. I had some (rather long) thoughts to add. Races: I think the classic four races of human, elf, dwarf, and halfling are more or less a given. They've been every edition since 0e, even if most of them were originally classified as "classes" so it stands to reason they'd...

    Alignment Issues!

This is true, a large part of the failures of alignment have been in explanation, I think. However, I'd disagree that the number of specific alignments doesn't entirely matter: I think the 5 alignments of 4e are still overly narrow and miss out on the rich law vs. chaos dynamic of previous...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

I figure warlords will make the transfer over to 4e. They're, to a certain extent, the 4e class, though not a single one of my players has a warlord character rolled up (well, there is one gnome who's a paladin-warlord hybrid). I think the idea of non-cleric healers is a good idea as well...

    No More Reptiles with Boobs!

I'd personally be cool with "no boobs" on dragonborn ladies but to be honest I don't think it's going to happen. And as much as we may say it's because of fan service, my impressions from other forums suggests otherwise: that it's mostly female players who like "dragonboobs." To a certain...

    Alignment Issues!

Thanks for the many compliments and XP rewards, folks. I'm actually a little surprised how well my idea was taken given the way many people feel about alignments. Glad to see that a lot of people liked it. Detect Alignment Spells and other mechanical effects of alignment should be an option, I...

How important is multi-classing, and why?

Ideally I'd like to see something that combines the customizability of 3e's multiclass system with the balance of 4e's. I think most of us can agree that the "multiclass" by feats system was overly restrictive but I think it's also easy to see how people abused the 3e system. I think a good...

D&D 5E (2014) 5E Forgotten Realms: what will it look like?

I actually wouldn't be entirely opposed to a hard reset of the setting that gets rid of everything, but only if it was really a reboot and not just a "4e didn't happen" reset. The former puts everyone on equal ground and could try to incorporate the best of both, while the latter would alienate...

D&D 5E (2014) 5E Forgotten Realms: what will it look like?

I'm pretty firmly against hitting the reset button. I don't see how it can help, accept by appealing to those people who didn't like 4e, who may not be invested in buying 5e to begin with. I think the best solution would to, as many people say, follow the Star Wars model and use the FRCG to...

    Alignment Issues!

Yeah, I think that's a good idea as well. Detect Alignment spells can easily end up defusing tension or surprises in encounters, as well as neatly folding NPCs and monsters into "kill it" and "don't kill it," which I think reduces roleplaying. Perhaps there should be a variable DC if they...

    Alignment Issues!

I actually think there should be 10 alignments: the told 9 alignments plus 4e's Unaligned. Why you ask? Because Unaligned really covers different ground then True Neutral does. Neutral, as it existed in editions prior to 4e, always came in basically two flavors: characters who were actively...

    Neverwinter Nights MMO Rumour

Much as I would love to indulge in DA discussions, it seems terribly off-topic. Back to the original discussion... NWN is a weird name for the MMO, but I imagine it's for legacy reasons more than anything else. Assuming that's even in production of course. So far we're only operating on rumors.

    Neverwinter Nights MMO Rumour

Frankly, 4e rules make more sense - not just from a marketing point of view but from a game mechanics one too. After all, isn't the most common complaint about 4e that it's too "video gamey?"

WotC's official (and maybe unofficial) stand on fan-use

I didn't clarify as much as I should. Note that what I was describing only applies for wikis or similar projects. For low-res images: Wikis that use similar rules include the Battlestar Wiki, Memory Alpha, Wookieepedia, and, indeed, the big daddy of them all, Wikipedia.

WotC's official (and maybe unofficial) stand on fan-use

Low-res images are covered by fair use. As for higher resolution images, WotC's art galleries are more or less expressly for that purpose as far as I can tell. Otherwise, why bother, to be frank? At the FRWiki we use art from promotional galleries all the time and have even asked WotC about it...

    Monster Alignment

Yeah, I've made that observation too. In 2e-3e there seemed to be an emphasis that chaos was better than law. Witness the fact that many (perhaps most) of the most moralistic and popular heroes of the D&D settings were chaotic good. Lawful seemed to be the lame choice. And now, in 4e, it's as...

    Monster Alignment

Let me rephrase that since my choice of words was poor. What I mean is that I like mixing morality up with creatures to be sure... but it's less interesting to me if it's lopsided. If it's just black and gray than it's not really any different than black and white... except that one side is...

    Monster Alignment

I don't mind that metallic dragons can be evil. However, I do mind that the ax doesn't swing both ways. A gold dragon can be evil but a red dragon, if one takes the MM at face value, can't be good. An eladrin can be chaotic evil, but an orc can't be lawful good. It's a double-standard really...

D&D 4E The still "complete" list of official 4E products, now with 2011!

Yeah, I kind of agree here. I'm fine with a Martial Power 2 because it looks like they're focusing on different stuff than last time round (fighting styles and such) but I really don't want a Martial Power 3. Not sure if WotC can resist doing more though :hmm:

D&D 4E The still "complete" list of official 4E products, now with 2011!

"Player's Handbook Races," huh? That sounds like it could be interesting - not that the other stuff isn't (those nefarious WotC writers, making me want to buy their stuff). My hope? More stuff like what's in Ecology plus details for integrating them into FR, Eberron, and whatever setting's...
