    What would you do?

I'm glad it's been resolved. Also, I'm aware that we only have one side. BUT, here's my take based upon what's been presented: That is not roleplaying CN. Unless you JUST met, and even then it's extreme. His actions were evil, plain and simple. I can think of no instance in...

An RPG Forum Lexicon: Clarity of terms

I'd say that Powergamer, Optimizer, and Min-Maxer are all the same and are well defined above by Hobo. "Munchkin", on the other hand, is a powergamer who goes beyond optimization, taking advantage of "cheap" or "unbalanced" rules or loopholes and is generally a pejorative term.

Paralyzed, then dropped below 0 hp

As others have said, but said another (simplified) way: If it could affect you while sleeping (hold person, a ghoul/ghast's paralysis, paralytic poison all would), then it would not go away when you drop to negatives.

Training peasants to fight in a pinch

I'm thinking that aid another for the specific battle might be an option. Depending on the story, the length of training, the strategy, the number of people training, etc this could apply to one or multiple of the following: AC Hit Damage Saves certain skill checks MOVIE SPOILERS BELOW...

    Christmas 2011 RPG Holiday Sales?

Ah, well, sorry for the confusion. Troll and Toad is my second favorite. They're a bit better with prices, but not as good with professional shipping or grading the quality of their items, IMO. Also, they've gotten some items wrong in large bulk items in the past for me. I'd give em a B+ and...

Paralyzed, then dropped below 0 hp

While the system and edition are important, I know of no system that revokes/removes paralysis (or any condition) due to penalties on the pc of any kind, including going negative. If you have houserules, you might make an appeal to the DM, or share the houserules here, and we could make an...

    "Let's rest now"

terrya Your posts smack of onetruewayism and the attitude that everyone else is having badwrongfun. Instead of insulting the way others play, maybe you could try to listen to what they're saying. You might find another aspect of the rping experience to appreciate that you hadn't noticed before.

    Christmas 2011 RPG Holiday Sales?

Not sure if this is what you're asking, but... I have found NOBLE KNIGHT GAMES - Role Playing Games, RPG's, Board Games, Miniatures, Dungeons and Dragons - New & Out-of-Print to be just totally awesome. They sell just about every used book out there, at a reasonable price, their quality...

    "Let's rest now"

Actually, apart from the name, you're not too far off. We were going a bit "superhero-esque". Our name was going to be "The Unstoppables" which is a bit of a joke reference. There was a line in John Carpenter's Vampires which went: "If we don't stop them, they'll be unstoppable!"

    "Let's rest now"

Back to the OP, though... This thread reminds me of a party we were going to make (but then I moved away from my group). We were going to play with the assumptions of D&D (3e). Our plan was to make an adventuring party that never, ever needed to rest. Then we'd run modules/published...

    "Let's rest now"

Terrya, you're not wrong, although I think you're missing some of the nuances to it. Yes, if every time players are about to do something stupid, the DM says "are you sure"...then you end up with a situation like you describe. However, isn't it fair to remind the dragonhunter (whose player...

What's a good name for a race of incorporeal tentacle monsters?

Vermicious Knids? Octophasms? Squiks? Phantopi? Wrigglies? Need to know the "genre" of naming for your campaign for better answers. Is it kitsch, but serious? Deep horror? Highly Lovecraftian? etc....

    Broken Base Lookback: Editions

Well, given that all of the data we do have is insufficient, and given that it was the SAME data we would have been using prior...wouldn't the null hypothesis be: "We don't know who the leader is, and never have." Because, if the data is insufficient now, where is the sufficient data from...

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

Fair enough. The best I've got as a synonym is "gangrenic" or "gangrenous" but I don't love those terms.

How many different ways are there to be hurt?

For "bad magic" maybe you want "necrotic"? Necrotic means "death" basically, but if you look up poisons, you'll see necrotic as one type (it causes cell death). (Others target blood and make it clot or target nerves and cause paralysis/lack of breathing). Necrotic could mean "death of cells"...

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

I learned that the hard way, Pemerton, with my own experience as a "Bad DM (tm)". I ran a campaign where I ratcheted up the challenges to excruciating difficulty, so that only through clever tactics could the players win. If they tried to play HP attrition style, they would lose, and TPK...

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

Ya know, I'm not accusing anyone of this, but this current part of the thread/conversation is reminding me of a DM I had in the past in which "magic didn't work" and "tactics didn't work". (This was when we were younger, he's much improved in terms of degree and flexibility now, btw.) His...

How would you handle a Paladin?

The chart from the link to detect evil is very informative. Detect Evil Honestly, until you're level 26, you don't ping "strong" evil, which fiends and clerics do at level 5/5hd and undead do at 9 hd. I'd say an evil character or npc who isn't an antipaladin or cleric need never really...

    Broken Base Lookback: Editions

WotC is NOT the 800 lbs gorilla. D&D still is, though (if you consider Pathfinder D&D, and especially if you combine Pathfinder and WotC). According to Lisa Stevens at Paizo, ICV2, and semi-longitudinal amazon rankings (we're at 2 months now), Paizo and WotC are tied (basically) with Paizo...
