This makes sense...there is a difference between someone who fishes for their next meal, and someone who fishes for their community, and someone who fishes for profit. All of them are fishermen, but not all of them are generally considered professional fishermen. Still: if professions...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

...I walked right into that one. Well played.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Actually no, we won't feel silly. Quite the opposite! It is silly (and rightly so) to assume someone could fall down and miss the ground, because it has neither evidence nor precedent. There is nothing to base that assumption on. But if it happens, we will have learned something new about...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I feel this in my very soul.

D&D General As BG3 Hits 2 Years Over A Million Complete It In Tactician Mode

I know what you mean. So many new features were patched in shortly after the original release. I understand why, but it was still frustrating. Like, the Hexblade is one of my favorite subclasses and I would have loved to play one, but by the time they patched it into the game I had already...

D&D General As BG3 Hits 2 Years Over A Million Complete It In Tactician Mode

It's a mode that makes the game harder in a lot of ways, but the big one is that you only get one save file. If you die, it deletes your save. https://www.ign.com/wikis/baldurs-gate-3/Honour_Mode

D&D General As BG3 Hits 2 Years Over A Million Complete It In Tactician Mode

I was playing in Honor Mode, but I lost interest shortly after I got inside the city. I'm sure I'll pick it back up again eventually.

I hear this all the time and I don't disagree, but I keep wondering: why isn't Hunter considered the oldest profession? or Fisherman? In order to trade things for, um, "special attention," you would first need to have those things on hand, yes? You can't really trade a bag of apples for...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

But plenty of things are flat-out impossible. Why is it wrong-minded to acknowledge it?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

"I've looked everywhere for the solution to this problem and I can't find it! None of these suggestions even come close!" Hm. Have you checked the mirror?

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Joe: "I'm going to keep rolling this dice until I roll a nineteen." Bob: "But that's impossible. You'll never roll a nineteen--" Joe: (interrupting) "Now look. A lack of observation is not evidence against something existing." Bob: "I understand that, but I'm trying to tell you that you...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

I'm going to have to defer to an actual physicist (or at least a physics major) on this one. I studied engineering, which doesn't dabble in stuff outside the Laws of Thermodynamics.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Now you're talking. Thermodynamics has laws (which are proven and repeatable, unlike theories), so they are much better than this maybe/probability/coulda/possibly stuff. I would run any and all "evidence of the paranormal" through the Laws of Thermodynamics as a first pass. Until you have...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Without evidence of any millennia-long lifespans, that's as good an idea as any. (shrug)

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

(Also, which is more arrogant: assuming that humanity is the only intelligent life in a near-infinite universe? or assuming that in a near-infinite universe, humanity is interesting enough to visit?)

Which Chips (or Fries) Are the Best?

When I was a kid, I was all about ketchup on my fries. I still enjoy it from time to time, but I'm more likely to reach for the malt vinegar instead. Never cared for mayonnaise-based sauces on my fries, like ranch or "fry sauce." They were always too oily for my tastes.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Student: "Space is so big and vast that it's practically infinite. It's very arrogant to assume that our planet is the only one to form that would support life." Professor: "I agree. What if our planet is the first?" Student: "....what?" Professor: "Because even if that is true, one of...

    Playing AS monsters?

Yep, I've done it a couple of times. Most recently, the player characters fell through a portal into the Feywild and were transformed: for the duration of their stay there, they would have the form of a Fey creature. They would change back to their normal forms when (if?) they returned home...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I'm at the local diner in my new neighborhood, and I'm having the "Agent Cooper" special for breakfast (slice of pie, heated, and a cup of coffee, black.) Damn fine.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

I know right? It's essentially the same argument ("I can't explain it, therefore CrYpTiDs!") but I wager it would have very different poll results. Not because of stronger evidence--or any evidence, really--but simply because space-traveling aliens + government conspiracy is the newer idea...
