Happy Haggert Hurried Hungry Hitch Hiking Hired Henchmen Hivers.... apply within

I don't mind mayo on cold sandwiches, or mixed into cold salads (potato salad, coleslaw, etc.) But on hot foods (cheeseburgers, hot dogs, etc.)? Bleh. Pass the mustard, please.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

When I'm in the DM chair, I always offer my players a choice to use either the 4d6 method or point-buy, and everyone always chooses to roll. The only times we've ever used point-buy was when the DM mandated it. I'm not sure if that says more about the game we are playing, or the people playing...

Power Rankings: Weird Al's Top 26 Songs

There's another category of Weird Al songs that wasn't discussed: Covers. His cover of George Harrison's "What Is Life" is one of my favorite covers of all time, and solely because of the PURE ENERGY the man brings to his performance in the video. And this little gem always makes me smile...

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

I'm not a fan. I like maybe two of them in total, with the rest being too cumbersome or immersion-breaking for my taste. I'd be more likely to implement the ones I like as magic weapon abilities. "This is the Sword of Xkdghesbykll. It's a longsword +1 and while attuned to this weapon you can...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Oh man, don't even joke about that. One time on a construction project, the contractor accidentally cut through an unmarked fiber optic line out in the middle of Nowhere, Oklahoma. Within 20 minutes, helicopters were circling overhead and armed military policemen were rappelling down onto the...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

It wasn't so long ago, that people were saying the same things about whether or not Dragonborn should be in the core rulebook. I remember the outrage and anguish when the D&D Next playtest (soon to become 4th Edition) included them. It never was a hill that I was going to die on (I have other...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

My mom is of a certain generation that believes a trip to the doctor is a wasted trip unless she gets a prescription. "I paid her all of that money and she didn't even give me medicine!" she will say. I imagine if my mom was told "pills won't help you, go to therapy instead," she would hear...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I have had a therapist tell me "sorry, but medications won't help you with that," and prescribed counseling and exercises instead. I understand how some folks might interpret that as a fancy way of saying "just get over it," but that's not what the therapist said.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yikes. I know it's only a single data point, but I've had several therapists over the years for different reasons, and I've never had a therapist tell me to "just get over it."

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I think a good bit of it is also cultural. In American culture especially, it seems like everything has to be described as The Worst Thing Evar!!1. Maybe it's the result of years and years of exposure to sensationalism and advertising? You don't have a headache, you have a migraine. You don't...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Exactly! And usually some kind of treatment (counseling or coaching maybe) can help them learn social cues or focus. One shouldn't dismiss it (or worse, ignore it) before reaching out.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The biggest things I learned from my therapist are the concept of magnitude, and what the word "disorder" means in psychology. Like, lots of people are obsessive about certain things, but few of them have an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Almost everyone has lived through traumatic experiences...

What Is Your Go-To Pick-Up TTRPG?

I guess it's an unpopular choice in this thread, but my go-to is 5E D&D. Chances are, anyone who plays TTRPGs regularly will already know the rules, which means we can get right into the game without having to explain which dice are used and what a "save throw" is. But on the rare and...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

I know we're already pretty far off-topic, but we already have rules for playable species that fly (several of them, in several different books, over several years.) Why not use one of these? I'm just sayin', this isn't really a new or unusual thing for player characters.

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

They hated it, they considered their new forms to be a twisted, weak, and cruel mockery of dragonkind. Too humanlike to fit in among dragons, and too dragonlike to fit in among humans, they were hunted and forced into hiding. Those that managed to escape into unsettled parts of the world would...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

Hard to say for sure. But if they're like my players, it probably has something to do with dual-wielding halberds, or shields, or both.
