Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

It's no secret how the cast of Critical Role feels about D&D. They're pretty open about it. I mean, Matt Mercer says it so often it's an internet meme.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

(looking out the window at someone rummaging through the bins for empty cans) You know, folks who say they love D&D and love the TTRPG hobby, but are trying to undermine and displace both "for their own good"...well. I won't go into great detail here; I'll just say that sentiment seems popular...

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

Choosing to use 5E D&D is not the same thing as abandoning Daggerheart. Critical Role has always been "a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors who play Dungeons & Dragons." That formula has made them all very successful and very happy for a decade...why would they change it?

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

It's gonna be weird if the folks at Wizards of the Coast and the folks at Darrington Press were to stop by EN World and read some of the posts here. Some people on EN World are fully committed to this weird idea that there's tons of animosity between the two groups, that they are mortal enemies...

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

On a completely different note: Having 13 players in a 5E D&D campaign would make my head explode. But if any DM could do it, it would be Brennan Lee Mulligan.

That does sound like something we would do here at EN World...

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

If that's true, it's a really weird thing to believe. It presumes that Wizards of the Coast is only successful because of the D&D brand (not true), and that D&D is only popular because of Critical Role (also not true.) Daggerheart is a great game and I'm happy it's doing well, but Darrington...

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

I can't figure out where this rumor came from. Was it here on EN World, or Reddit? I've never seen it on any of the official Critical Role sites/feeds*. *I'm not on BlueSky or Twitter, so I don't know what's getting mentioned there. But I do subscribe to their newsletter.

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

One of my colleagues is an older gamer like me (started in the 1980s), and we were talking about different RPGs the other day. He said that "5th Edition D&D is basically the new G.U.R.P.S. now" and my face did this: I mean, he's wrong...but he has a point. It is the generic universal...

Geek Confessional Thread 2024 [NOW 2025!]

I cut my gamer teeth on JRPGs like Final Fantasy, Ultima, and Dragon Quest, so I love turn-based combat in my video games. It's actually my favorite way to play an RPG of any kind: CRPG, TTRPG, JRPG, whatever the heck Ni No Kuni is... I think it's the Tactical mode that keeps me interested in...

Exactly. We need that thread for the same reason we need landfills: the garbage has to go somewhere, or else it will be everywhere.

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

As a DM, I would allow it. And then add a bite attack to the elemental's stat block.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Sometimes. Other times, Mother Nature makes the poison for us through natural processes. Some chemicals only become toxic when oxidized or mixed with water, for example. We release something perfectly safe, and then 30 years later Mother Nature goes and adds a hydroxide ion to it and turns...
