Underpowered Guns in d20 Modern (rant, long)

I searched through the SRD but didn't find any reference to such a rule. It might be in the book but I don't know where it would be. Aaron

Army's new mobile laser can shoot down mortar rounds.

I don't think that determining whether its a friendly round or not is a problem, just target the rounds that are coming towards you. I see the biggest problem as the time it takes to heat the round until it explodes. The faster the round moves the more cooling from wind. Plus, spin stabilized...

Army's new mobile laser can shoot down mortar rounds.

Actually, using dopplar processing, its fairly easy for a radar to pick out a moving object among ground clutter. Of course, you need line of sight and cities are, as you said, the worst. There are planes with side scanning radars that, using GMTI and GMTT (Ground Moving Target Tracking)...

Have the third-party d20 publishers failed?

I don't think there ever will be new "classic" adventures, regardless of how many WotC puts out. If you were playing in D&D in the early 80s you had about 6 total adventures to choose from. Now you have tons of current adventures plus a vast catalog of backlist and old version adventures. Back...

Have the third-party d20 publishers failed?

Ah, there's the rub. Are these campaign setting popular because they have adventures or do they have adventures because they are popular? I agree that its a good thing for publishers to release adventures for their settings. However, I disagree that they aren't doing it and have somehow...

World's Largest Dungeon: And the verdict is?

Why buy 5 dinky adventures when this book is the equivalent of over 12? Aaron

Have the third-party d20 publishers failed?

Midnight, Arcana Unearthed, Scarred Lands, Iron Kingdom (this one was an adventure first), Forgotten Realms, Freeport (also adventure first), and Mutants and Masterminds are all examples of d20 settings or games that had adventures published for them. And that's just off the top of my head. It...

World's Largest Dungeon: And the verdict is?

Do you think that's even possible? World Largest Wilderness maybe?. Worlds Largest City? If it were Thieve's Guild that was coming back, I'd be excited. Aaron

World's Largest Dungeon: And the verdict is?

Dude, didn't you just three minutes ago (in another thread) complain that game companies aren't making enough adventures?! Why come down on this one? I think you just disproved that thread's topic. Adventures don't sell because DMs are incredibly picky about what adventures they buy. Think...

    shield bash and two-weapon fighting

Here's the way I look at it ... I can be carrying the 150 lb. unconscious body of a party member with my left arm and still fight without penalty. Yet, if I exchange that body for a 1 lb. dagger, I'm suddenly -6 to hit. That makes no sense. Aaron

Have the third-party d20 publishers failed?

I think your missing the larger point. If publishers thought they could make money on adventures then they would. But, with a few exceptions, they aren't. If what your saying is true (that adventures would result in higher supplement sales) then the only excuse as to why such adventures aren't...

    OGC Speak Language alternates?

I would expect that number to be higher, especially considering all the letters and documents found at Vindolanda. Many of the letters were written by ordinary soldiers and auxiliaries. I guess it all depends on how you define “illiterate.” I’ll have to check out that book to see the evidence...

Alternate DR rules- no Golf bags!

I don't like this +2 bonus because it turns DR into a weakness, esp. Silver. Past a certain level, every weapon will be at least +2. Now creatures with DR/Silver will take full damage anyway and extra damage from silver magic weapons. DR shouldn't result in the monster taking bonus damage. Aaron

Underpowered Guns in d20 Modern (rant, long)

I don't have d20 Future so I can't coment on it. What I do is give weapons a bonus to hit when firing bursts or full automatic. However, every weapon has a seperate range increment for automatic fire to reflect the weapon's recoil. There is a point where your actually less likely to hit because...

Underpowered Guns in d20 Modern (rant, long)

If you change your situation to a first level knight versus a first level soldier, you'd get the opposite result. The problem isn't the damage done by weapons, its making the battle between high level characters. Regardless of what you make the weapon damage, you can come up with a similar...

I'm wondering how well WLD might work as a sort of Reverse Dungeon setting. Are there goblin villages and such in there? Aaron

    OGC Speak Language alternates?

I'm curious as to what the general literacy rates were in the various time periods; roman, dark ages, medieval, and renaissance (sp). Anyone know abouts? Aaron

The ELH is a great book (if you know how to use it)!

I skilled character is at a minimum +7 better than an unskilled one. How is that not competent? With a high ability score (i.e. natural talent), he's hitting DC 20 skill checks all the time (by taking 10). That's the difference between a "typical" item and a "superior" one. A first level...
