    The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde

Well, there's two dungeons in the Adventure Book, and a third (the largest) in the Campaign book. The Campaign book also has the set-ups for the three dungeons- the first is the players being hired to retrieve some spice crates stolen by goblins, and the second leading off from that based on a...

Why was the Sword of Sharpenss removed in the 3.x rule set?

Vorpal weapon is a death effect. Save or die. Sword of Sharpness doesn't kill you right off, it just cuts a limb off. What effect does that have? How much damage? It is no where near as neat and simple as a vorpal weapon.

Why was the Sword of Sharpenss removed in the 3.x rule set?

It cut off limbs, an act which carries with it all sorts of reprecussion. Shouldn't someone die from the blood loss? Or shock? What attack penalties, or movement penalties? And how should it be rated plus-wise? The vorpal weapon is easy. It cuts off heads and the target dies. Instant death...

    [Rant] Playing Monsters Poorly

The party was up against a number of flying dwarven barbarians. The dwarfs were using hit and run attacks, but they kept getting grounded by Dispel Magic. Once on the ground, they'd get surround and the party rogue would tear into them. It was only after the fight that I remembered barbarians...

    2007 Judge Selection

I was playing on a private Ultima Online shard in 1999 (World of Dreams) and I was tapped to be come a Seer (UO-speak for guy who creates quests). It was policy for staff members to take new names so they wouldn't be associated with their PC (we didn't want people messaging the staff...

Ryan Dancey interview on Fear the Boot

Thanks for posting the link, Buzz. I'll be keeping my eyes open for their next interview.

Leaving Significant Other at Home to Game on V-Day?

I'm not a big fan of V-Day; a combination of so many spent alone and not liking the idea that this one day I should be romantic, as though I'm not on so many other days. Thinking my then-girlfriend was of similar mind almost caused a big problem last year. This year, she (now-wife) said she...

DDM Unhallowed - full set list.

I don't think I'll be buying a case like with the last two sets, but I'll certainly pick up a few boxes. I wouldn't mind having another size of black dragon to play with.

Magic Item Compendium: The Diablo II gems have made their way to D&D!

Yup. I figured the Compendium was an eventual buy, now I'm trying to figure out how it fits my budget.

    2007 Judge Selection

And some more questions in this thread: It's game material. Whether or not anything is being produced for the game is not relevant to the quality of the product. And it can be nice to see support for old favorites. I'd see how well I could evaluate the item on its own strengths and then I'd...

    2007 Judge Selection

Catching up on some questions here: How do you personally evaluate flavor text? Is it entertaining? Is it accessible (if it's loaded with too much jargon and setting specific terms, it's not going to be readable). Does it give a good picture of the setting? Can the game mechanics be used to...

    2007 Judge Selection

I've tossed my hat in, so here are my answers (I think I've found all the questions asked in this thread) 1. How do you think price factors when evaluating a product? I don't think it's a major factor. It might affect my buying habits if it lifts something out of my price range, and in a...

Deadline for Judge Nominations fast approaching

Being very aware of the deadline, a question: I sent in my nomination form late last night. When should I expect to hear back to verify that I qualify?

    Dungeonscape Answers

I figure anyone who would dip here for skills would have dipped a level of bard or rogue, so I don't think that will matter. Where'd you get the book from, Razz? I've got a preorder at Amazon, and hoping to see it soon.

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

I'm a maybe/yes. Maybe I'll buy it. I don't know what "it" is yet, so I can't say for sure. Timing matters; when 3E was on the horizon, I don't think my group had played 2E in over a year (maybe they had- college meant I was only there for summer and winter break, and when I was, we always...

    Dragon's Crown - your experiences?

I ran it. 2 players, using 2 characters each (which two it was could switch as they had the full 4 character tree). The Avangion gets killed in it, before the players can get there to do anything. Thri-kreen were supposed to slowly go crazy (although they might have been able to use their...

    Grayhawk Help

I don't think there's a set spot for the valley (and it would have been nice if WotC had suggested a place for the core setting *grumble*) For my game, I created a spot for it in the Crystalmist Mountains, somewhere between Geoff and Sterich, with one of those countries officially ruling the...

Thanks, Shemeska. I'll add my Dragon Archives to my resources when I start working on this further.

    Slaad Lords

I don't expect to use them "as is", if at all. But, starting from a 3E stat base seems easier than starting from the Fiend Folio. Hellhound- bummer. I guess I won't be running over to Paizo to check on their writer's guidelines. Although I do wonder if enough time (and editors) have passed...
