How similar am I to you?

Nice... the first hit is free... I like it! You are able to use some 280 books reguarly? My mind boggles... You and I differ here as well. I run my games (only run drama games) for my friends, and I have a strict no kids allowed rule. I just don't enjoy running games for the younger...

How similar am I to you?

Thanks Pat, that was a really nice thing for you to say! :) Say it ain't true!!! Crothain, dude... please say it ain't so! Cutting back on gaming when you don't have to? Isn't that like choosing to only breath once every ten heartbeats, or deciding that 6 hours of sleep is for the...

How similar am I to you?

I hadn't thought about it, but you're right, it is. Can I move it? Do you find that you get to play very often? I suppose that without a wife and kids you have more time to play many different games. One of my game buddies is involved in perpetual engagement with a gamer gal, and he playes in...

How similar am I to you?

When I was 9 I fell in love with role-playing. There wasn't much to choose from then, there was D&D and... well there was D&D. As I grew up more and more games were introduced into the market and I found myself in the position of being a lower income bracket child in a slowly expanding universe...

What are the best books for Scarred Lands?

Or you can just do what I did, recognize that they are all (except the Tribes book for some reason) selling at 60% off and just buy them all. :) My problem now is finding time to read them all. Divine and Defeated, Ghelspad, and Termana are all lots of fun to read.

    Scarred Lands Help

Nightfall, thatwas wonderful! You know I purchased all the Scarred Lands Material when it went on sale, so I'm ripping off your paragraph and sending it to my group. Thanks! P.S. Keep us posted on that SL DMG project you are working on. I'll buy it POD if nothing else.

I Just Couldn't Bring Myself to Do It

Why thanks Rominpotent. :) I think the flavor of Kingdoms of Kalamar, with its more realistic bent and the grit under it's perverbial boots lends itself to good gaming. It's my favorite published campiagn setting... the writing is simply consistantly excellent.

I Just Couldn't Bring Myself to Do It

I wanted to use the Assassin PrC, but didn't think going more than two levels over the party average was fair. Grendel the Dwarf btw, is a 5th level character. So I just tweaked it a bit and made a 4th level rouge, 2nd level Assassin. Meh. I just don't agree. I think GM's have the right to...

What do you do when players don't show?

I have unusually dedicated gamers, they basically always show. I think that we are so bonded as groups, and RL is such a stress that gaming is a big priority for all of us. We all are married and have families and need our fantasy time. Both my game groups are filled with amazing folk. :)

I Just Couldn't Bring Myself to Do It

Eh? Heck no. Not unless its a cursed item that causes it's WIELDER to fall unconcious... even then I'd expect a save... it's one of the basic standing principles of 3.x.

I Just Couldn't Bring Myself to Do It

I'm hardly afraid to kill a PC, though I don't enjoy it. When a carefully crafted and beloved PC dies exploring a murky fetid swamp, spelunkering, or sacrificing himself to save his companions then okay, that makes for good storytelling. Being poisoned by a dagger in the market was even...

    Tell me about Earthdawn

I own all the Earthdawn products and ran my Magnum Opus campaign using that system in a three year long game. The games success was due in part because of a great story and to a larger degree by an amazing cast of people playing in the game. I will always fondly remember the system for it...

    Gaming and your Significant Other

I met my wife Katy in high school and she knew I ran role playing games then (I was also superjock football stud and tennis player so I was well rounded, now I'm just round ;) ). That was 20 years ago and she has always accepted and encouraged my play. I don't think she really understood the...

    Who cares?

I own quite a number of the Rifts books and plunder them for ideas and art. I have to agree with you about the system though, it's the most horrible set of game rules I've ever tried to run. Gah, this thread is making me realize that I'm not as open minded as I thought!

You got me there Rodrigo, I despise anime. I can't say I'd play anything.

    Do you use Random encounters?

I've always considered them to be filler for a game in which the GM can't think of anything else to do that fits. I might take ideas from a published module's random encounter charts and fit it into a game for an encounter on the road, but I don't roll dice for it. I choose what would seem like...

    Who cares?

My RPG collection is a testimony to the fact that I simply love our hobby. Surround me with good friends and I can become enthusiastic about running most any rpg.

you drew the short end of the stick

(Edit: In reading this over I sound kinda heated, I don't wish to offend anyone nor was that my intent.) I'm not really understanding the point of this thread. Who, as a GM actively participating in this thread would say no if a player came up to him and said, "Um, pardon me, but I'd rather...
