In need of advice: laptop vs ipad for tabletop gaming!

I've played with my mothers iPad and I own a large very powerful gaming laptop as well, which is just to heavy to lug about for rpg games. I decided to invest in a Nexus 10, and opted for the 16gig version simply because for a $4 app and a $3 adapter I can use any flash drive I wish as backup...

How do you set up a game group these days?

I think I have found my game group. They are 20 min away, and I went and gamed with them last night. Really great group of people, intelligent, funny, and into rpgs. We played Interface Zero with the Savage Worlds system. Not sure how excited I am about the game system, but its the group the...

My Bones are Here! (212 reaper minis)

Its taking Reaper a while to get them out the door. With so many orders its perfectly understandable. Glad yours arrived. :)

How do you set up a game group these days?

I honestly wouldn't know where to begin with that. Since I live in Portland, which is a large city, I would think there has to be a number of groups looking for solid, socially aware members. :) I've had a few replies now, but all are just to tell me that their game is full. Still I have hope!

How do you set up a game group these days?

I just learned this morning that Obsidian Portal uses an online map program to locate campaigns in the same manner that Enworld uses to find players. I've found about a dozen different games in my area that are active (and a lot more that haven't been updated for 2+ years) and have sent them all...

How do you set up a game group these days?

I attend Multnomah University which is a Christian college. While there is nothing unChristian about rpgs and D&D specifically, there are those who are young in the faith or have bound themselves to wrong minded moralistic ideals who believe that it is. I do not make a secret of my hobby in...

How do you set up a game group these days?

I've seen encounters games run in local shops, and even tried one once. They seem to cater to a younger crowd, or to people who cannot commit to a campaign. With regards to conventions, there are a couple here in Portland, but the $50+ entry fees are a bit high for a college student living on...

How do you set up a game group these days?

I did find a link off the pen & paper's web site that you provided to a campaign that is posted on Obsidian's site, and I just sent a message to that DM. Its not Shadowrun, but beggars cannot be choosers. :) I appreciate your help and kindness. James

How do you set up a game group these days?

Yes, I am in an episodic IKRPG that is taking place weekly, but attendance is anemic and the folks who are playing treat it more as a tactical wargame than an rpg, which is fine, but not my style. I'd rather just play warmachine at that point. My local WM/H club is very competitive and practice...

How do you set up a game group these days?

These are all good ideas, and I will follow up on them. What I'd really love would be to find a 4th end shadow run game, but it seems not many play here in Portland. Most folks my age (43) have too many responsibilities or time constraints or other interests. Computer games are easier it seems...

How do you set up a game group these days?

How do you go about contacting people and setting up a group in this electronic age? I've used the game finder provided here for the greater metro Portland area, and am waiting for responses which may or may not ever come. I've been out of the rpg scene for a while now, playing mostly Warmachine...

How many official settings have there been?

The two mentioned settings were actually in Forgotten Realms but I'm sure that was just a typo. Lots and Lots of settings from the pre-3x days, and so many post 3x 3rd party settings I'd have to research to even get close to naming them all. Old settings included Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Forgotten...

    Need web assist, Shadowrun game

I've just taken a step into SR 4ed and wanted to see what type of web support it has. My every attempt to locate a home page for the game (fanpro's home page for the game or a wizkid related link) sends me to some aweful german promo page for hundreds of games. Would anyone be able to turn me on...

Banning a Player from my Group. Am I Justified?

I'v been gaming for nearly 30 years and I've been in the position a couple of times where I've had to remove friends of mine from a group. What I can say to you about it is that I've always regretted (and still do) the need to have to do so. I second guess myself and ask if there was some other...

What's your most surprising go-to DMing resource?

My players. Seriously, my players are my largest refrence. I toss out a lot of convoluted issues and themes in my games, often times without having a solution worked out, or just a half baked idea in my head about what direction I'd like to see the game move in. Then I listen to my players...

I tried the 4 player standard, what a mess...

I find it hilarious the range of assumptions that are tacked on when little to no information is initially given to support them, but I suppose that is the nature of public postings. The four players in question are vetran gamers, very experienced with many systems and all very bright and...

I tried the 4 player standard, what a mess...

Well I just returned from church where I shared the posts I'd read with two of my players who attend with me. Essentially we agree the CR system is broken and that what really works better is my GMing the way I always have and ignoring the rules I dislike. It works for us, and I have thier trust...

I tried the 4 player standard, what a mess...

I ought to clarify a few points, and thank you for your observations. First off, I did in fact feel the Ogre was a little too much, we even joked about it when they first found out that the adventure started off with an Ogre hunt. My goal however, was to test the CR system, and as such I...

I tried the 4 player standard, what a mess...

I'm blessed to have large numbers of game playing friends... I've run games for three decades, you meet a few people in that time. My games have always had a minimum of 6 players in them, and I've run games for so long that I've always designed encounters myself by estimating the power level the...
