    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

But what is the role of the Ranger in the game? A Ranger is supposed to be a Wilderness Expert. He is supposed to fill the exploration pillar of the game as an expert as strongly as the Bard fills the social pillar of the game. Additionally he can fight okay. So Purpose 1: Exploration, Purpose...

D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Rating Is Imprecise (And That's OK)

Actually, I think the encounter went as expected. If I would do the math, it was probably harder. I mean we are expected by the rules to do 6 to 8 medium encounters before a long rest. I don't think we could survive 6-8 encounters with the roper without a long rest in between, because of the 20...

Planescape Planescape IS D&D Says Jeremy Crawford

But Ravenloft is more like the feywild or the Shadowfell (or part of the Shadowfell, depending the Lore) and not like another Forgotten Realms, Ebberon, Greyhawk ... Like, I would use ravenloft like the feywild in relation to the material.plane my adventure takes place in, let's say the...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

I guess it would be something like ... The attack action helps you resolve inworld fiction. Does my attack hit or not? But it doesn't dictate the narrative like an ability that would create a narrative, like a mechanic that would let the player decide what happens in the game world. Like in...

Planescape Planescape IS D&D Says Jeremy Crawford

I don't know. I personally don't like the Idea. Like with Spelljammer ... it just made all the settings worse to have it as just a way of connecting multiple settings instead of it being an extension of an existing setting or an setting in its own right. Like it is to no interest to me at at...

D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Rating Is Imprecise (And That's OK)

I wish they kept the 4e CR Design - monster cr per character level. And stronger and weaker creatures are adjusted to that. A 5vs 5 Battle in 5e is more often better balanced than a 5 vs 1 Battle, even if you adjust the Encounter math according to the book. But what I noticed is, that often the...

And that is when Encounter CR breaks down ^^

D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Rating Is Imprecise (And That's OK)

To be fair, I don't have Mage Armor (don't like spell taxes!), so my AC is 13, because 10+ dex ;).

D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Rating Is Imprecise (And That's OK)

Second to that. Yesterday my Group fought a Roper (CR 5). We were 4 5th Level Characters. So a medium encounters by the book. We had full ressources. Now, this is the beginning of a dungeon delve, so we need to look out for our ressources ... An a roper is a mean Monster. 20AC, 96 HP restraining...

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

I would say, and that's how I personally judge people: Everybody has their biases and blindspots. Like, I married a Black woman and my white ass still occasionally says something that could go on a "stupid stuff white people say about race"-show. The important part that says alot about you is...

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Because people in general have preconceived notions about what things are supposed to be, especially if they exist in the real world (but not exclusively to things of the real world). Like ... how I like my Star Trek and having a Star Trek series where the characters don't act like professionals...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

That's what I said like 20 pages ago. Warlocks should be subclasses of Wizards, Sorcerers and Clerics, depending on if they borrow, learn or get power trough body changes.

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

The breaking point for verisimilitude is for every person different. Like people complained about GOT TV Characters staying fat wild being month in the wild with barley any food. That can be a deal breaker, because we expect fat people to loose weight when they don't have food. It wasn't for a...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

You need some realism. Any work of fiction that has no realism at all can't be understood. That's why books about "Xylotirants who knoxilexes trgidians" don't sell, but books about "mystical knights who have to fight evil forces who want to suppress the whole galaxy work". You need...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

to go back to topic, I would propose to look at BG3 how they fixed the martials. They made some rules tweaks, like no attunement. They added a bazillion magic items and rained them over the world and changed a little bit the classes (like monks being able to wear armor and do martial arts...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

The whole thread is about how to Fix D&D 5e - the Gap between Casters and Martials. Introducing races that outpower all other races is not the solution I would go for. And of course existing game mechanics are the baseline, unless you wanna create a whole new game from scratch.

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

We are talking about D&D here. So the baseline for all Players Character Races is the commoner, with 10s in everything +-2 with a maximum of 20, which is the highest ability score that can be achieved without magic. That is the context of our discussion. Of course you can create a Drax race...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

Exactly. If they have superpowers they are magical/supernatural/mutants/Aliens/demon bargained/... if mundane people just trough Training can become superstrong, like some people say happen in Mangas and Anime a lot, than thoose are probably not for me.

    D&D General #Dungeon23

Days 215 – 224 – Hopper’s Rest Tavern owner Inana Quickhelm (Gnom, chaotic good) needs help from adventurers. She wanted to open her tavern “Hopper’s Ruh”. While renovating the premises carved into the asteroid, two of her employees came across a tunnel behind an old shelf. The staff went in...
