D&D 5E (2024) How should the Swordmage be implemented in 1DnD?

I could see two sets of spells - one for combat rhat are always known, and then utility spells, maybe done as rituals, that are in a spellbook. So you have combat spells like arcane smites, Shield, absorb elements, misty Step and stuff and that are always known and rituals that they can learn.

D&D 5E (2014) What if everyone in the setting had a [Class]?

Soft in the sense that it is not an actual game where the protagonist is inside a game like an MMO or suddenly gets access to meta knowledge about abilities (like Super sales on super hereos). Like the difference of a D&D novel and guardians of the flame, where the characters are sucked into a...

D&D 5E (2014) What if everyone in the setting had a [Class]?

A system similar to this is the Arcane Ascension Series. Not every humanoid gets a class in this setting, but every humanoid can undergo a judgment in one of the Towers of god (like an ever changing mega dungeon), where at the end of the judgment they get a visible attunement mark that defined...

I turned one of my maps into a One-Page-Adventure and put it on the DMs Guild: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/472223/Cellar-Rats-Onepage-adventure-for-level-1--2?src=newest_in_dmg&filters=45469 It is PWYW so have fun with it :)

D&D 5E (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

But Con is useful in game (as Charisma) - it should be a "useless" abilitiy score comparable to intelligence for wizards. So make that Strength. Sorcerers should use their strength score. Because all classes need main stat + Con. If Con is the mainstat you make it too easy.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you require a roll for this?

That just happened in my game last sunday. The PCs were plundering the ruins of the thieves guild they had blown up before finding a chest. The party rogue found a needle trap on the lock of the chest by making an investigation check. So what did they decide to do? Trigger the trap while...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player’s Handbook (2024)

Like, if I as a self publisher would do that as Print on Demand over like amazon, a 40page (can do 32 pages but 40 pages is the same price) premium color softcover I could sell for 9,99 (or 6,99 for a Black and White 102 pager). But at that price point I would have to do everything myself. To...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player’s Handbook (2024)

Could there be a market for cheaper produced PHBs? Like a B&W softcover? I only know POD prices, but to get around the same profit from example from amazon, a 300 a page premium color hardcover would cost for the consumer 60$ and a B&W softcover 20$. But I would guess when you have offset print...

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Swordmage be implemented in 1DnD?

So in effect, a swordmage could be a Wizard Subclass with the following feature? "Martial Magic You can use any (melee?) weapon as a spellcasting focus that replaces the verbal and Somatic components of a spell with a (melee?) weapon attack. (Optiona or higher level feature: A target that is...

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

Outside of combat, unprompted Die Rolls are ignored at my table.

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

So your players say "I attack the ORC with my sword" and then wait for you to call for a roll during combat?

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

Like one of the most common Tipps all over the Internet to speed up combat is to roll attack roll and damage roll at the same time you declare your attack. Somewhere was a thread about the actual play time of a combat round and the range was from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. Ah, found it...

D&D 5E (2014) [+]Exploration Falls Short For Many Groups, Let’s Talk About It

The Idea that every kind of healing uses up HD is actually a good one. Because right now, HD are mostly ignored in my games, because the most limiting factor for most players are spellslots and not HP in my experience so they push for a long rest to get those back instead of short rests to...

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

I'm totally for that. But in my Heartbreaker 5e I design when I have time and that will be finished in a 100 years ;), I would change that: Some spells are quick and not interruptable. Some spells take longer. My current idea would be something like this: Some bigger spells like fireball need...

D&D 5E (2014) [+]Exploration Falls Short For Many Groups, Let’s Talk About It

5e has attrition ressources for extended challenges. Food & Water (combined with Encumbrance in order to limit those two) and exhaustion. 5e even does have diseases that can get worse, that could be used. The problem is, the rules for those get ignored the most often in 5e, because the...

D&D 5E (2014) How much should it cost to use a permanent teleportation circle?

If you just go by RAW 128 creatures with 30 feet movement are able to cross the teleportation Circle in 6 seconds/ 1 round. In a campaign I DM'ed I used that as a rapid response army ... Higher level casters would cast teleport to go to a place, bringing portable teleportation circles with...

D&D 5E (2014) [+]Exploration Falls Short For Many Groups, Let’s Talk About It

That is super bad adventure design. If a failure doesn't do anything, why even roll several times? Like, I designed an adventure (not published yet) where the party has to find a Goblin hideout in the forest. They also have to do one! survival check. The survival check determines 2 things: the...
