Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

In case I may have been misunderstood... if the Char's ride modifier is +4 or greater I do not require a roll. I agree. I tend to get DMs who hates take 10 and disallows it on tests where failure has consequences (climb, stealth, disable device etc). Some even disallows take 20 outright... but...

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

The problem here is that DMs generally loves to call for checks when there is no need. Crossing a river? Swim check! Climbing a tree? Climb check, even if the tree is only 10' tall and practically harmless to a 3rd level fighter. Same thing applies in combat really. Do you really need to roll...

    Casting with Concentration

This reminds me a bit when I made a house rule converting all Sorcerer spells into spell points. It basically allowed them to either spam magic missiles (etc) all the time or get even more high-level slots by sacrificing low level ones. Personally I prefer systems where spellcasting is...

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

Ironwolf: The encounter distance for say, forest already have 3 different values for light, dense and thick forests. There are even modifiers to stealth etc. from different levels of underbrush. Forests have LOTS of rule details... guidelines? Who knows. Hmm actualy it says that "these rules...

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

What I feel is appropriate. Hmm well if it was that easy I wouldn't need any rules at all. I'm not a militairy man, I don't really know exactly how hard it is to spot a group of soldiers at 100, 300, 1000, or 2000 meters. I only know that each is possible because of reported kills at those...

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

There are situations where something is hard to spot even if there is no hiding involved. I would like some good rules on spotting groups of people when moving cross-country, especially when there is no hiding involved. Sure, when you as a gm think it should automatically succeed or fail, it's...

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

Well by that rationale a monster can have 40 BAB if I want.. after all it's all guidelines right? Maybe I'm accustomed to another playing style, but when I GM i try to follow the rules as closely as possible, make Ad-Hoc rulings when needed (no rules exist), or make house rules when I think...

Alot of people die in bathtubs every year.... Also, it's not a fair comparison in the ludicrous, since you can't go underwater if there is something else blocking you (bathtub). Being able to move through solid material is a special ability only incorporeal creatures and some elementals have ;)

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

Perception, pg 102 PFCR: Notice a visible creature Perception DC 0. Also, hear the sounds of battle, DC -10. Hear sound of creature walking DC 10. Why I think it is required? Because it is not an automatic success. Seeing people walking at a long distance can be difficult (but far from...

Too bad they didn't have glasses back then...

Hey despite the steamlining of the D&D system, there are still some quirks that have not been fixed. One of them is the fact that creatures in this game has a hard time seeing anything past 100 feet. Actually spotting something kilometers away is simply impossible using the Perception rules...
