    Love for Hackmaster?

Stepping away won't end the engagement with the enemy. You can use Fighting Withdrawal or Flee, but the enemy can follow you and attack. Unless somebody keeps him from doing so, you have to be very lucky to not get hit with a d10 defense roll. Also see rule one: RULE ONE: In HackMaster, any...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's up with the Realms?

Did anyone summarize what's the status quo of the Forgotten Realms after the Sundering? What did they change/retcon?

When you get bored of goblins and kobolds...

One more vote for lizardmen! And gnolls, frogmen, gnomes, xvarts... Cat people, insectoids, serpent men... HackMaster has leech men, they fit the swamp perfectly. And let's not forget about vegepygmies. When was the last time you used them?

    Favorite D&D Retroclone?

Swords & Wizardry Complete. It's very fast, rules light and has a lots of content despite being ~130 pages long. It also has seperate race and class, optional ascending AC, the single saving throw mechanic, and it's free now. I really love DCC RPG, but it's a unique gem, while it's an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wizards: Evokers *and* Illusionists?

Well, let's call it a summoner playstyle then (now that you mention, elementalists and demonologists are quite popular too, at least around me).

    D&D 5E (2014) Wizards: Evokers *and* Illusionists?

You forgot necromancers, which seems to be a quite popular archetype. Far more popular than illusionists IMO.

Need campaign setting for Dungeon Crawl Classic

I don't think Harn fits DCC RPG's style.

Need campaign setting for Dungeon Crawl Classic

Like if converting from any D&D based system to DCC RPG would be so hard... By the way Blackmarsh was originally written for Delving Deeper and it clearly has OD&D-isms in it.

Empire of the Petal Throne (Original Manuscript Draft) available on Drive Thru

Don't forget about Wilderlands of High Fantasy. Or even Arduin, since that was OD&D-based too and full of sci-fi elements. There is a lot to love and adore in these settings.

    Initiative: second by second

Maybe it was Rolemaster, it uses quite big numbers compared to AD&D. Or Synnibarr. :D

    Initiative: second by second

Nope, the first/fourth edition of HackMaster is pretty much AD&D on steroids. The only part of it which I remember using thousands are the critical charts.

    Initiative: second by second

How did he do that? The first edition (I mean the fourth :)) appeared in 2001 as far as I know.

Need campaign setting for Dungeon Crawl Classic

The monsters are quite easy to convert to DCC RPG even on the fly, so that's another 25 pages of good stuff you can use. Settings I recommend are Wilderlands of High Fantasy, Scarred Lands, Arduin, Blackmoor (or its free cousin Blackmarsh). Feel free to use whatever you like, even if it's not...

    Savaged Arduin?

Of course it would be cool. Arduin is the epitome of cool. :)

Non-D&D Fantasy Games - the best and why?

The new HackMaster. A bit complex, but character creation is deep, combat is intense and quite realistic, the writing is good, the books look awesome. Not running it at the moment, but once the GMG is out, I'm going to start one in Frandor's Keep. Dungeon Crawl Classics is cool too, it's like...

Judging a book by it's cover....(the best book covers)

The new HackMaster's Hacklopedia of Beasts and Player's Handbook are marvelous. Other than that, I love the AD&D1e PHB's Trampier cover, the WFRP1e core book's cover - these all show you adventurers in action, instead of posing superheros (I'm looking at you, 4e PHBs).

AD&D 1E Is anybody playing 1e with the reprints?

I have the original books, so didn't buy the reprints. I'm running a sandbox campaign since early August on my homemade setting, Xarn. We had three sessions so far, and the party just learned about the half-merman and lacedon lairs under the town of Ysbrough, found a temple of Dagon, killed a...

Review of Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG by Goodman Games

I got my book in time, thanks to the pre-order. Joseph said they have so many orders that delays may happen. Heck, they almost sold out the first printing and a second printing is coming soon.

Frog God Games buys Necromancer Games

We already have the old three compiled in The Tome of Horrors Complete, and it has much more monsters than a DM will ever need. I think converting the out of print NG adventures and products to the new supported games would be more important (Pathfinder, S&W Complete). Supporting more systems...

Frog God Games buys Necromancer Games

What took them so long? Now all I want to see is some agreement with the Judges Guild folks and the return of Wilderlands of High Fantasy for Swords & Wizardry.
