    Why all the fiendish love?

First off, just let me say this thread has gotten very very messy. I'm going to try to keep the worst off it off of me. :) That said, there's two points I want to go over. First is that there's something inherently cool about playing a heroic (even if not particularly benevolent) character...

    Gravity

Easy solution to keeping characters from treating falling like no big deal: apply falling damage to their equipment as well. A fighter may laugh off 35 damage to himself, but if it applies to his armor, weapon, and/or any of his shiny magic items he'll probably think twice about it.

[Rampant Speculation] The First New "Power Sources"

Heck? Heckling? Hexadecimal? :p But really, Curse should work fine for them. I'd say fully channeling negative energy would be different enough from arcane or divine to warrant it's own power source. If they aren't changing the cosmology too much, Planar (Negative) could be an option, or just...

D&D 4E I've nailed down why 4e makes me apprehensive

Just give monsters "classes" (really a measure of power, trained or natural) and "races" (just the core properties of the creature type) that are each balanced against each other and PCs, and you can be balanced right there. Monsters wouldn't have the same breadth of options, for simplicities...

[Rampant Speculation] The First New "Power Sources"

Gnomes are a class now?!? Actually, that explains a lot. :)

D&D 4E 4E: Talent trees, class features or both?

Definitely both. Talent trees are great... but when you look at a class and just see the same whatever a dozen times (I'm looking at you, d20 modern!) it just seems dull. Not to mention, classes need at least some specific, defining features to them. Keeping at least a few constant, labeled...

    Double Weapons: Scrap or keep?

That... actually looks reasonable. Normally, dire flails make you think of a crazy weapon that's mostly made chain, bludgeoning, and self inflicted wounds, but I could actually see using that kind of weapon. Most double weapons would be much more acceptable if presented reasonably, I think. A...

Of Bards, Power Sources, and future classes

It always seemed to me that the magic of bards and that of wizards and sorcerers were different things. Sure both were arcane, but considering all magic was either arcane or divine that doesn't say much. Bards didn't simply have a different selection of spells, they could heal, their spells all...

Alright WotC, fess up...who came up with "Emerald Frost"?

I agree completely. Acid doesn't come up much in the natural or fantasy worlds, and it's not like acid rain is a problem. But there is some relation between acid and swamps, so there is some connection with water there. But swamps are warm and inland, as opposed to the cold of ice you would find...

    Roles, Power Sources; unbalanced?

I don't think it would end up that way though. Clerics have been mentioned as able to act as healers even when taking other kinds of actions, presumably through swift actions. I imagine other classes have similar powers. If there were a way to change roles around, switching those powers would...

    Roles, Power Sources; unbalanced?

Then you're hearing me wrong. I'm saying that they, and every other class should be good in different roles, not every role at once. Any class should be capable in any role, in their own unique ways. For example, a leader druid would be better at healing and buffing, and less capable of throwing...

    Roles, Power Sources; unbalanced?

In third edition, yes. But druids were overpowered, being a jack of many trades and pretty good at all of them. You really think it will be that way this time around? Or that it even should? Because sometimes I want to play an archetype, and sometimes I want to subvert it. Because saying what...

    Roles, Power Sources; unbalanced?

My basic idea is that classes would have built in variants, centered on what kind of role of the character has. The differences between them would be slight, in that it would be passive and not open up entirely different abilities, but still significant to the characters basic function. For...

    Roles, Power Sources; unbalanced?

Mages need not have to heal to be Leaders, they just need to be buff orientated which they are quite capable of doing. What I think people having a problem with is the One Class = One Role approach would tend to pidgeonhole certain characters around certain styles of play, regardless of whether...

D&D 4E AC exists in 4e... but do Reflex Saves?

Avoiding the rolls is fine, but throwing a bomb into a crowd of orcs with a low roll means the all take half damage, really whats the odds of that? Maybe if you aimed the fireball a few feet too high over their heads, but that kind of hand waving doesn't work for other kinds of spells. How...

D&D 4E AC exists in 4e... but do Reflex Saves?

My only problem with using one roll with the caster is if your targets have similar defenses, it all or nothing: you roll high enough to get them all, or you miss them all. I dunno, maybe they'll address that somehow, but I don't see how it could be faster than saving throws in that case. Mob...

    Roles, Power Sources; unbalanced?

What I'd really like to see (but I highly doubt it would happen) is role and class being separate. From 1st to 30th, you have that Role, and it effects abilities that scale as you advance regardless of class. Some combinations are more obvious or have better synergy than others, but you could be...

    New playtest report 9/20...

The fact that it could cause a collapse if used in the wrong spot was what caught my eye. This is the kind of stuff I like. :)

Familiars and Animal Companions. Should they stay?

I expect blasting wouldn't be a focus of that path. Divinations, enchantments, using familiars for touch attacks, etc. Plenty of angles to go at, which would be easier to brainstorm about if I knew what implements actually did. :) But it could be blasty! Imagine a wizard with a raven familiar...
