D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Fair enough. However, you are aware that you are suggesting raising your prime attribute only every other time when you have that choice? Normally it is quite possible to increase your prime attribute every time without sacrificing your concept. With the scheme you are suggesting you are...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

I'm not sure where you get to a difference of 20% in hit chance if you compare Str 15 to Str 20. Your bonus (across all levels) is +2.5 less than the Str 20 guy. That's about 12.5% hit chance, same as in 3.x. And the damage bonus is actually relatively minor, especially at higher levels. The...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Actually, if you think about it , it is pretty easy to assess the difference between having a +2 and a +3 in your primary (attack) attribute. Assume (for simplicity) that a typical session in D&D will have 3 combats, lasting ~ 7 rounds each. Hence you will be making ~20 attack rolls. For each...

    WotC announced non-randomized minis

What he said. And thanks for acting like a human being rather than a corporate robot, even though it gets yo nothing but grief. Though frankly I'm surprised that you still consider it worth your time to visit these boards.

One major thing I sure miss...

I think this is mostly an effect of the ongoing edition war on this site. It is hard to generate excitement with so much negativity. Furthermore, several threads gushing about a new rules idea were moved from the general forum to the 4th edition rules forum. Thus you may not see them. If you...

What do you want to see from DDI, Dragon, and Dungeon?

Nothing actually. Dragon is the best it has ever been, with flavorful fluff and crunch that actually works. It is a clear step up from the Paizo Dragon that contained many good ideas, but half of the new rules material was underdeveloped and could not be used in a game without serious fiddling...

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

Context matters here. If you want a one-line description of MERP in a situation where nobody has emotional investment your description may work, although saying "MERPs is a simplified version of Rolemaster" is more precise. However, when tempers are already high, and people are emotionally...

My daughter doesn't like combat..what's 4e got left?

If you insist of using D&D as your RPG of choice, skill challenges are a great way to handle non-combat challenges, although you are probably better off, if you use the rules as loose guidelines. However, if she is not interested in the gamist aspect, I would suggest a simpler storytelling game...

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

The question is not whether you are right, the question is is if you are expressing yourself in a way that contributes to the discussion. If we assume that posts here are meant to be read and not as some sort of self-expression, then we should consider how the reader will understand our words...

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

Do you actually think that telling people that the game they prefer is intellectually less sophisticated than your preferred version is not easy to read as an insult? You are not calling a spade a spade, you are expressing a personal opinion about the game. Thus you should take care to phrase...

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

Is it really so difficult to use the neutral term "simplified" rather than the negative "dumbed down"?

Pathfinder 1E Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo, commenting about ENWorld

I agree. However such a post has no place on a discussion board. And if this position reiterates points that have been discussed to death, people may react irritated at being subjected to the same line of reasoning again. Still, this is clearly not an excuse for being rude. I agree with earlier...

    Are rogues marginalized by magic?

A better phrasing may be that magic infringes on all skill users. Rogues are most affected by that, but Rangers are marginalized by that as well. At high levels, most skills do not contribute overcoming challenges.

    Taking a Break

rpg.net is friendlier than enword these days I have to belatedly agree with the OP as well. These days, if I want to read a friendly, constructive and inspiring discussion about D&D, I go to rpg.net. This is the place to go to watch fans tear at each other about which way one should go about...

    Hyena-Chucks

This has nothing to do with your question, but remember that this tactic only works until you hit lvl10 as a Dragon disciple. Then you are a dragon, and not a legal target for an Enlarge Person spell. However, you get so many other goodies at that level that it hardly matters.

What are the 5 most powerful feats in the PHB?

I think your evaluation of PA is strongly affected by your opinion about the iterative attacks. However, I do agree that PA & Cleave are very good feats. (As opposed to 3.0 where you only took PA to get cleave).

What are the 5 most powerful feats in the PHB?

However, using power attack will only really do more damage, if the BBEG has a mediocre AC. Consider: Assume the fighter needs a 11+ to hit, does damage of 2d6+9 (16 average) before factoring the bardsong. Without PA, he will need a 7 + to hit for 20 average damage; he'll do 14 damage on...
