    Someone has MM3 at RPG.Net

Is it just me or is RPGnet now the place to go for D&D news?

    WotC's Epic Adventures

It looks like they seriously messed up damage for paragon and especially epic monsters. You probably wouldn't go way wrong if you just doubled damage for every epic monster. There is a poster on rpg.net who puts a lot of work into statistical analysis of monster output vs expected defender HP...

Mearls is the new manager of D&D

Yeah, I recently reread it. it's a really nifty gift for players, it also makes a lot more sense than the 3.5 version of the Moathouse, where you had to assume that all the monsters were deaf and dumb, otherwise the PCs would be overrun in no time (happened in our game). So I would love to see...

What are the worst classic D&D adventure modules?

Worst classic D&D module I played: Keep on the Borderlands. Why: Mearls sums it up nicely (The Inside Scoop on Gaming - RPGnet) Worst classic D&D module I read: Tomb of Horrors Why: <McEnroe>You cannot be serious<\McEnroe>

    Ideally, How Many Battles?

Nonsense. 3.x and later explicitly give XP for things other than combat or looting. In 4e you can easily get half a levels XP out of skill challenges. To answer the OP, I'ld say 1-2 meaningful combats that the players actually care about above and beyond their own survival.

    Runepriests in Eberron

Between this and your recent post on RPG.net you might have given my campaign a new direction. Thanks.

    Struggling with DMing

What you need to design the adventure is interesting encounters and a way for the PCs to go from the first encounter to the last encounter. As a tool to facilitate designing this, I found Masterplan to be a really nice timesaver. (Masterplan) It allows you to set up a few encounters and then...

What 4e Fluff do you Like?

I agree, the 4ed cosmolgy is one of its strongest parts. And Munstrum's post summarizes why. It is fantastic and at the same time accessible. I also like the Epic Destinies a lot. They give the high levels a feel that sets it apart from lower levels. In general, 4ed has adopted a "show, don't...

    I'm getting Edition War fatigue

But that is not the reality anymore. Most "Look at this cool new article/book" type posts get now moved into 4ed rules, when the same type of article would have stayed in General before 4th edition. I assume, edition wars have affected the policy of the Mods and the administration. Many such...

    I'm getting Edition War fatigue

Can we get a 4e general for such threads? I would love to have a board to talk about 4e, so that I can ignore General RPG Discussion but presently all we have are 4e rules boards.

    Why doesn't 3.5 make SENSE?

    Lol, nice.

D&D 4E Is 22 points the best point buy for 4e?

I agree. Consider the two classes in 3.x, Fighter and Caster: For fighters, the benefit of +2 Str (or Dex) is primarily +1 to hit adding 5% to the chance of hitting. For Casters, the benefit is +1 DC and extra spells, but it is also primarily +5% to the chance of the spell working. So the...

    I've experienced D&D4

I agree. So how can we make it friendlier?

    I've experienced D&D4

I would say it's evenly distributed between 4ed and 3.x fans, which makes it feel a little unwelcoming to either side.

What a great storytelling DM looks like

I just wanted to give Barastrondo props for staying unfailingly polite in this discussion.

What a great storytelling DM looks like

I'll take credit for that. And I think PC's post also show how to run a story based game right. The story provides a general long-time direction for the events in the campaign, but at the local level, there are many different directions the players can go in. And many choices that the players...

Mike Mearls: Build your Adventures in OD&D

Have you looked at Piratecat's 4th edition thread? That would be how a great storytelling GM runs a game.

Are people still mad about . . .

The main problem may be that people state their emotional reaction as facts to give them more weight, even though they know that their perception is not shared by everyone on the board. If you look at the first two pages of the board, several posts express their emotional reaction to the...

    4E at higher levels question?

That graph looks about right. While the scale on the axis will depend on the groups, I would estimate that the intersection is usually around level 6, when iterative attacks show up and buffing becomes SOP in 3.x.

Love it or hate it, 3e style

That is pretty much my opinion as well. D&D got substantially improved with every edition and 3rd is actually a decent game.
