    Kobold Small-unit tactics

Dangit, Haakon1 beat me to it. Kobolds are basically VC with scales. Here is one thing I want to say, though. Kobolds should almost always start with 4 warrior levels as the base. That leaves them as a CR 1 creature with 4 HD. That also means that they have a good reason for having a lot of...

    Looking for a 3.5 monster

Nah, here it is. Decapus. Nasty little critter. I think I would give it a good Hide score and some camoflague and just a smidge more Dexterity. Not to be trifled with by low level characters at all! http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/aberration/decapus.htm Edit: 9 attacks at +6 plus a bite...

    Wizard vs. Fighter duels

Wizards can fairly easy do tons of damage a round and find ways to energy substitute them so energy resistance doesn't matter that much. All it takes for the Wizard is to win his initiative check and the Fighter is Nova'd to Hell. Not to mention all of the save or die and spells that are no save...

How many of you actually use the term "buff" in game?

Yes, in and out of character. Come on, 50 percent of the characters in Dungeons and Dragons seem to be pro adventurers so it makes sense that they'd have some slang and common terms to work with.

How much profanity in your game?

I curse a blue streak every once in a while because when it comes to not rolling with electronics but with actual dice I roll terribly low. Some nights I can't roll mid double digits on an attack roll to save my life. D20s HATE me. I stick with one for the whole session, it hates me. I change my...

[Rant] Bad cliches, silly names, and acting stupid around the gaming table

Mileage varies a lot. I guess I like a game to be sillier than most. Since life and death for the main characters is on the line, by the book suggestions, at least 3 times a day there is plenty of time to be serious in game.

    "It's a joke name, sir."

Everybody has played with a monk named Thelonius, right? And the perfect thing is that even though its a joke name few people even know who Thelonius Monk was anymore, the people who do aren't for the most part high schoolers and twenty nothings and even if you do get called on it Thelonius is a...

224 page book on Drow yet...

I hate Drow. Can't we all just hate? Hey, if this was about Elves there would be 10 pages proclaiming the greatness of Dwarves, as it should be. The next Book in the Series Drow in Chainmail Bikinis Riding Legendary Dragons Casting Spellz0rz:I'm in UR b00kz mocking UR paine.

Is it unbalancing to let arcane spellcasters cast in armor?

Whatever. Give the Wizards some more things. The strongest class in the core game gets it so the second strongest class in the core game should get it, too. Its funny how giving even more to the haves is viewed so dispassionately, even favorably, yet feats, equipment, and prestige classes that...

224 page book on Drow yet...

Say it Loud! You hate Drow and You're Proud! Why all these qualifiers? How many posts will I have to see that start or end with "I'm not really a drow hater BUT..." before people learn that hating Drow isn't a bad thing? Its a stupid effing subrace that gets more air time than Demons and Devils...

Is it unbalancing to let arcane spellcasters cast in armor?

They wouldn't say that, they'd both be in Twilight Mithril Breastplate with mithril bracers. "So, how about that 'Armor Spell Failure!', Jordek!" "I'm so glad we hocked all of those bracers of armor we looted early on in our career for these wicked awesome end runs." "Hah Hah! I'm flawlessly...

Magically Equipped vs. Unequipped - What is the Level Difference?

I'm guessing that someone would be roughly worth 25 percent less without gear, perhaps more. A group of 15th level players fully geared with magic should be able to rule characters without it, particularily martial classes that can't cast. Fighter type characters aren't jack without expensive...

New "What sort of RPG player are you?" poll (this one by Charles Ryan)

Timmy: Likes big fat effects, stuff that makes people go Holy :):):):)!!! when it hits the board. They usually love "fatties" or "beatsticks", highly costed yet strong creatures. I'm guessing Timmy would be the guy who likes to get really silly effects in one impressive area and be the best at...

    Explanation of Ability Scores

That is how I always remembered Intelligence being described. It also gives you a good excuse to play things with Intelligence 8 ruthlessly in combat. That could be about an 89 intelligence, that is certainly smart enough for something to a be competent hand to hand combatant, especially if they...

I hate elves mostly because of the people playing them either want to be hawt women, openly racist, or rip off pop culture icons. Legolas was Drizzt before Drizzt.

Anyone else not too fond of the new stat block setup?

I see how the new blocks should be useful but they really aren't to me. The edition I've played the most in is 3/3.5 so I'm really intimate with this block. The new stuff should help but I find it just gets in the way because I'm so used to it the other way.

    What's your favorite spell system?

HERO. Really customizable, pretty balanced. The "Talislanta" style stuff. Spellslot casting(think its too strong, but it is pretty simple and elegant)

Is it unbalancing to let arcane spellcasters cast in armor?

3 sentences to say what everyone has known for the past 6 years: Sorcery is stronger than swordery. The way I see it the last thing that is necessary is giving the strongest type of class almost by default even more power. Give away freebies to the sword swingers and bow shooters of the world...

Is it unbalancing to let arcane spellcasters cast in armor?

Not to mention abilities and materials that take away armor check penalties, ASF, and lighten the material down like Twilight, mithril, etc. If they really want to a caster can find enough magical and material end runs around proficiency, ASF, and weight. This wouldn't really give the savvy...

Fiendish Codex III: Intrinsic Evil, 200+ pages all about Yugoloths. Now that I would buy. The committee thing is putting stupid images in my head of iconic people in our "culture" making up gaming rules and regulations. "Geek law!"
