Well, we'd been calling the BBEG a "Lick" in a campaign until somebody looked it up in the dictionary and said that it meant corpse in some language(French, I think) and should be pronounced softly. They're still Licks to me, though!

I'm going to beat the dead horse again... The Beholder should be significantly better than a creature of like CR. If its done with demons, devils, angels, and dragons why not a quintessential 3 decade old creature? Beholders must kick ass once again.

Damn skippy. Needs another 4-8 HD and elite scores. You take away a creatures most potent abilities and make the cone more selective you gotta pants the creature up. For an iconic creature with a CR of double digits the Beholders stats are far below average. A Mind Flayer is stronger, smarter...

Then get enemies with a ton of HP, too. Like drakes, plants, or aberrations. Personally if I were in a party with a Warmage as the only caster I'd be sorely dissapointed.

Anything with a ton of HP makes a Warmage cry in his beer, and if they like to spend times in groups or are a "mated pair" so much the better. 4 CR 6s or 2 CR 8s is going to be a lot harder on a Warmage than 1 CR 10. More targets to hit, more HP, too. And tanking isn't so much of an option...
