D&D General You Can Now Make Greyhawk Stuff On DM's Guild!

The 30% OBS/ 20% WotC is from a Keith Baker blog post about DMsGuild royalty structures. It's a reasonable assumption that he knows the breakdown given his connections, although it's true that neither OBS/Roll20 or WotC has publicly provided that breakdown. It also makes sense in that as you...

D&D 5E (2014) [2014 rules] Can you charm zombies (and other undead) in this edition?

Some specific Undead (ghosts and specters, for example) specifically have immunity to Charmed (and many other Conditions) listed in their stat blocks. If it's not listed there, then the creature isn't immune. Neither the 2014 nor the 2024 zombie is immune to the Charmed Condition. They ARE...

D&D General Of Consent, Session 0 and Hard Decisions.

I actually buy this which is why tbh I do try to avoid the jargon - it does rub me the wrong way. But you can cover the important topics and concerns, in writing or in conversation, without using the jargon.

D&D General Of Consent, Session 0 and Hard Decisions.

See, these are what I would consider RPG horror stories - in this case, horror stories which might have been prevented or mitigated by safety tools. Not saying they would have totally solved everything, but it seems like they probably would have helped in at least some of these situations. What...

I guess I’m curious about these “horror stories.” What exactly are these drama queen seafood Americans getting up to?

D&D General Of Consent, Session 0 and Hard Decisions.

I have a generic code of conduct form that I use for one-shots, and a more specific one that I incorporate into a session zero document for ongoing campaigns. I've never see a PLAYER submit a "consent form" to a DM, but I find it very common for DMs to provide codes of conduct or safety tools...

DDAL D&D Adventurers League Update for the 2024 Core Rules a DnDBeyond blog.

It does make sense; I'm just happy whenever they reaffirm their commitment to do it at all, since I am not 100% convinced they will.

    Level Up (A5E) 5e 2024/5.5 vs Level Up A5E

I prefer Combat Maneuvers because they are more varied and interesting but also because they are more limited in terms of number of uses. Since exertion points recover on a short rest, I find that martials rarely completely exhaust them but sometimes do, which is good.

I'm encouraged that an updated SRD is specifically mentioned as forthcoming (though still no real ETA beyond "after the Monster Manual").

D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

In my experience that encounter can swing a lot depending on how viciously the DM deploys the goblins’ Nimble Escape bonus action Hide/Disengage ability. It gives 4 goblins an action economy that 4 2014-era level one PCs may struggle to match, especially if the goblins get the drop on them.

I forgot those ochre jellies. That’s brutal. I had to deus ex machina my players out of a TPK the first time I ran that.

D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

I found the quest boards in DOIP to be shockingly lazy adventure design, but I do think that’s a matter of taste and style. For some groups I can see it working well. IMO their use in DOIP creates a bad impression on new DMs and players by making the world less organic, detailed, specific, and...

D&D General Starter vs Essentials vs Stormwreck Isle

I actually just checked and in fact the adventure DOES advise you to just focus on 2 of the kobolds that you like, and have the players interact just with them. I’d still argue that there’s no reason for there to even be 9 of them, and putting 9 in and telling the DM “pick two” is a bit...
